"Diana?" I asked. I was surprised to see her.
"Who's this, Alice?" Olivia asked, looking worried.
"Liv, this is Diana Umberton. Nicholas's sister."
"She's one of them." Her voice shook, and she sank to the ground.
I sighed. "Olivia-"
"Alice, stop disregarding what she's saying. She's right."
I looked at Diana. "What do you mean, she's right? She can't be right, do you even know what she's saying about you?"
"She's calling us vampires. She's right."
"You're out in the sun."
"We have powers. This isn't really me, it's an astral projection."
"Powers," I scoffed. "Fuck off, Diana, there's no way I'm going to believe any of this."
"You know, part of my power is the ability to be able to tell what kind of power each human will have if they were to be changed. You two... You would be very, very powerful."
"That's great, Diana, but I don't believe you." Like I'd listen to this psychopath.
"You'll believe us when you can see. Hell, you should ask Kim. Nicholas is so smitten with you, he changed your best friend the moment he saw her. Guess he thought that she could get him close to you. Of course, now your girlfriend's becoming a vampire, and really your entire life is going to go tits up."
I'd had enough of this. I left, going back into the apartment and quickly got properly dressed. I lay down on the bed, and the exhaustion hit me. I fell asleep, and didn't wake up until Olivia woke me.
"Babe?"
I ignored her.
"Alice, Diana said we still have our own minds. I won't hurt you. I promise, I could never hurt you. I love you."
"I love you, too," I told her. Even if she was crazy.
That's when I saw her fangs come out.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. "They're fake, right?" I asked, laughing nervously.
"No, Alice, they're not."
"Olivia, if you're trying to freak me out or play some kind of prank on me then you should know that you have definitely succeeded! This needs to stop, now. I'm frightened, Liv."
Olivia looked at me, tears rolling down her face. "You don't think I'm frightened, too? Look at me, I'm a monster. You'll never want to see me again because of this. I'll be stuck wandering with some guy who's in love with you, and his family of vampires!"
"Olivia, look, I think it's safe to say that I believe you now. Honey, I love you. I don't really understand what's happening, though. I don't know anything about vampires."
"Oh, but I do, now. Now that I'm one of them, I know it all. It's really quite fascinating."
I couldn't help but laugh at her, this beautiful woman I had dreamed of spending the rest of my life with.
"I don't want to be without you, Olivia. Maybe... Maybe if you tell me more about... vampires... then maybe, we could figure something out."
Olivia looked delighted by this idea. "Oh, yes, I would love that! What do you want to know?"
"Well, how much of the myths are true? Holy water? Wooden stakes?"
"Holy water, no. Who really thought that an entire species could have their actions determined by a religion? We can go into holy ground, too. But, we do need to be invited into other people's homes. Em, yeah, wooden stakes is one of the only ways to kill us. Can't go out in sunlight or we burn... Oh, and did you know that every single vampire has a special power?"
"Oh, really? What's yours?"
"I haven't used it yet, but Diana said something about me having power over the elements? I think that's pretty cool."
"You should give it a try," I encouraged, excited now about the thoughts of vampire life.
Olivia looked around, and spotted a glass of water left on our bedside table. She concentrated on it, and pointed her finger.
The still water began to tremble slightly, then suddenly, a stream of it went up into the air, hitting the ceiling.
"Wow, that's pretty cool!"
"Alice." Olivia took my hands in hers. "I love you. I promise, honey, I will always love you, but, the more I think about it, the less I think we can be together."
"Why?" I asked her, tears filling my eyes.
"I'm not going to age, Alice. I'm going to be 19 forever."
"Well... We can still be together now. Why worry about the future?"
"Look, the longer we stay together, and the more in love we are, the more likely you are to ask to become one of us and I can't do that to you."
"Olivia-"
"No, because I... I'm going to have to kill people, or at least seriously injure them. What if I were to hurt you? You don't realise how strong and fast I am now. It's terrifying."
"Liv-"
"And I know, we love each other. I've never loved anybody more than I love you, and I truly believe that I will never have feelings as strong as these again. And that's why I can't make you one of us."
"Babe, if you'd let me talk then you'd know that I don't want to be a vampire. I enjoy being human. But..."
"But what?"
I sighed. "I don't want a life without you. So, why should we have to break up just because of this? Let me know when I get too old for you." We giggled. "I love you, Olivia High, and there's no way I'm letting you go that easy."
"Alice..."
Olivia kissed me then, and it was a million times more electric than before, as if this body was who she was supposed to be. Before we knew it, it was impossible to keep our hands off of each other, both of us naked in the bed in two minutes flat.

"So," I said, slightly out of breath. "That's what sex with a vampire is like."
Olivia hardly seemed fazed - her newfound strength and stamina, I supposed. "Yeah, that was way better than before, right?"
"I can't get my legs to work."
There was a knock on the door.
"Alice let me in! I know you know, now, and we need to talk!"
"Oh, Kim, I know what you can do, just come in!" Olivia shouted.
"What can she-?" My question was answered when Kim suddenly appeared at the foot of our bed. "What, you can teleport? That's pretty fucking cool."
"Shut up. Look, my boyfriend is in love with you and we need to talk about it because he's going insane."
"Wait, Nicholas?" I sat up in the bed, using the duvet to cover myself. "I barely know him, we only met once."
"Well, he enrolled here because he 'loved you the moment he saw you' or some other shit like that. Look, Diana told him that you know about vampires and he told me he plans on changing you so that he can be with you forever. It's sick, really. Honestly, I think it's just because Diana told him what your power would be and he thinks it would help him."
"Well, what would my power be?"
"Don't tell her," Olivia cut in. "I don't want being one of us to become any more intriguing for her."
"Don't worry, I know Alice, I'm not risking it. Alice, listen to me. Okay? You need to let Olivia bite you."
