Chapter 20

**Ridge**

It's been two weeks since I met Kaylene and played Xbox with Beowulf. There were times that night that I had to force myself to stay calm and not kiss him. His scent was literally drowning me in his closed bedroom and I couldn't have been happier. We even flirted some, and I'm pretty sure Beowulf knew what he was doing.

Maybe Kaylene is right and he is questioning himself now. Maybe he does feel the mate bond but is still confused about it. Hopefully he will figure himself out soon since I had to stay home for a week during the full moon.

The effects of the full moon start about a week before the full moon and get stronger the closer to the full moon it gets. The effects even last for a few days after the full moon even, making it extremely difficult for a wolf like me who has not yet mated with their mate but still sees them every day. It is practically torture seeing him every day at school and not being able to touch him.

But Beowulf has been asking me to hang out more, which makes me and my wolf extremely happy. It makes me believe that he is giving in to the mating bond, which I really hope for both his and my own sake that he does give in soon. My wolf is growing impatient and wants to mark his mate already. A wolf is used to marking and mating with their mate right away, not waiting almost two months.

My phone rings so I fish it out of my pocket as I make my way out of my bedroom. I check the caller ID and jump when I see James's name pop up.

I quickly press the green 'answer' button and press the phone to my ear. "James?" I ask excitedly.

"Hey, Ridge," He says equally excited. Man, I really miss my best friend.

"Did you find where you were going? Did you find your mate? Are you together now? How have you been, man?" I ask happily, the questions just flying out of my mouth one after the other.

"Ridge," He chuckles on the other end. "I miss you too buddy,"

"Man, it's so boring here without you," I complain.

James laughs on the other end. "I bet." He clears his throat before continuing. "So I did find where I was going,"

"And that is?" I ask once he stops.

"I'm in Jefferson City Missouri," He says.

"Missouri." I say. "Huh, okay then,"

"I found my mate, and no, we are not together yet." James says with a hint of sorrow in his voice.

"And?" I ask impatiently. "What else?"

He clears his throat again. "His name is Sebastian,"

"Him? Your mate is a male?" I ask shocked. Me having a male mate was shocking enough since I'm a Beta, but James being the Alpha and having a male mate as well?

"Yeah, he's awesome, Ridge, like seriously. I can't even start on how amazing he is." He has a dreamy tone to his voice.

"So you're not together then?" I ask just for confirmation again.

"No, but I'm going to ask him out on a date later this week, Alexa is helping me out."

"Alexa? Who's that?" I ask confused.

"Oh, right, sorry." He laughs at his own mistake. "She's the Alpha's niece. I've been staying with the Willow-Creek pack."

"Oh," I say as I start to understand. "So this Alexa is going to help you ask your mate out?"

"Yeah, and she's helping me plan the date. She's super excited and I found it's just best to let her do what she wants in these types of situations."
