Chapter 1: Deprived Pedophile or Alien?Harper's POV
My parents always warned me to stay out of the forest by our house, but I like being surrounded by trees. It's peaceful and brings me a sense of serenity. I've never dared venture into the forest at night before though, until tonight.
It is a beautiful night out and I feel like he forest is just calling out to me . So me, being the ever so curious person I am, can't resist. I grab my army bomber jacket and throw it over my black t-shirt that I pair with my black ripped jeans and combat boots. I climb out my window because I know my parents wouldn't like me going out at 10 o'clock at night, especially if they knew I was heading to the forest.
I am walking through the forest when a sudden chill runs down my back and I started to feel creeped out. It is pretty dark in the forest and the only light is cast down by the moon.
I convince myself I am being paranoid, but I still kick myself on the inside for not bringing a flashlight and maybe some garlic in case a vampire decided to show itself.
My parents, and just about everyone else I know, have told me a million times that vampires aren't real, but I'm convinced they do. I also believe in aliens, werewolves, zombies, ghosts and other supernatural beings.
Which probably makes me really stupid for wandering into the forest at night without any form of protection. I can be stupid sometimes.
I hear a branch snap and my heart begins to race. Oh crap, oh crap, oh crapitty crap crap! It's an alien I just know it! I'm going to be abducted and probed and I'm never going to see my mom and dad again!
I duck behind a tree and try to survey my surroundings. It's too freaking dark out here! I can barely see anything! Hopefully the aliens don't have night vision. For the first time I wish my hair was brown so it could blend in with the landscape better. My red hair stands out against the night and I wish I had a hood to cover it.
I hear another branch snap, but it sounds closer this time. I try to make myself as small as possible and wish for a Harry Potter invisibility cloak. I close my eyes and just listen.
Something brushes against my cheek and I jump and my eyes snap open. There's this creepy guy staring intensely at me. Now he doesn't have an ax in his hand or a ski mask on, no that's not why he's creepy.
He's creepy because it's well past 10 pm, it's dark, and he's in the forest. Now I know what you're thinking,."You just described yourself." That is where you're wrong, well okay no, you're right about that part.
But the difference between us is, I'm quite sure he was the one creeping along snapping branches. Also, the glaringly obvious fact that he just caressed my cheek. I don't know the proper etiquette for greeting strangers in a dark, creepy forest, but I'm about 97.8% certain that it's not caressing their cheek like some deprived pervert.
So until this point I've just been panicking on the inside. I'm surprised I haven't screamed yet. Considering the circumstances, I have a few good reasons to scream, but I think I'm being very brave.
Suddenly, the stranger reaches forward and tucks a piece of my hair behind my ear, causing me to stiffen. Like dude can you back up a couple of steps, you're all up in my space.
"Such a vibrant color, very pretty," he purrs.
Don't scream, Harper, don't scream.
"Could you back up a bit? I feel like I'm breathing in the air you breathe out," I say trying to play it cool.
"Ah, sorry I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," he says though he sounds like that's exactly what he was trying to do.
Okay so I've come to the conclusion that this guy is a certified creep. I start thinking ways to harm him so I can escape. Man I wish I had learned how to do those pressure point things that can knock people out. I could always go for the oldest trick in the book and kick him where in the nuggets. Oh! I can stick my fingers in his eyes
"I wouldn't recommend kicking me in the genitals or sticking your fingers in my eyes. You'll just make me angry," he says matter of factually.
"Did you just read my mind? Oh my gosh you're an alien! Holy crap please don't take me to your UFO! I'm not interested in alien tentacles?" I ramble trying to discreetly back away, but I'm back up again the tree.
"I'm not an alien, don't be an imbecile," he says sounding unimpressed."What are you then?" I ask fearfully.
His eyes turn red and he flashes a set of fangs.
Great a vampire, my second greatest fear.
That's when I scream.
