Chapter 2: From Human To Vampire

Harper's POV

The smell of blood is the first thing I notice as I regain consciousness. The second thing I notice is the insatiable hunger . And the third thing I notice is the pounding in my head and the throbbing in my gums.

I feel the sun shining down on me and when I open my eyes, I'm surrounded by trees. This looks like the forest near my house, but how did I get here? Why does everything look sharper and why am I starving?

I remember the smell of blood and hurriedly sit up and look down to check myself for wounds or any sign of injury. All I see are my arms looking paler than usual and the clothes I wore earlier that day.

Then the memories of last night come rushing back. No no no no no no no! I raise my shaky hand to feel my neck and instantly feel the slick moisture. I already have an idea as to what that moisture is, yet I still hope I'm wrong.

I look at my hand and see the red blood, my blood. I start hyperventilating and tugging at my hair.

"I was not bitten by a vampire, this is a dream. It has to be a dream!" I whisper frantically.

"I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's not a dream," a guy's baritone says.

My head snaps up and I see a guy who looks no older than 21. I hop to my feet and automatically back track away from him. Whoa. Why does it feel like I just moved away from him in a second? I'm no athlete, there's no way I should be able to move that fast.

"Who are you? I'm a black belt! I'll karate chop you into next week!" I throw out false threats. I don't know any karate.

"You were attacked by a vampire last night, so it's not surprising that you're a bit disoriented," the mystery guy tries to say soothingly.

"You're with that weirdo vampire from last night aren't you!? You better stay away from me!" I continue to ramble.

"I'm not with Vector! I hate him actually," he hisses as his eyes flash red.

"You're a vampire too! You are with him," I shriek assuming Vector is the vampire who bit me last night.

"Just because I'm a vampire doesn't mean I'm with him. Vampires aren't like werewolves we don't have to run in packs," he frowns. "I'm not going to hurt you if that's what you're wondering."

Is that supposed to be reassuring? Just because he says he won't hurt me, doesn't mean he means it. I'm sticking with my instincts. The last vampire I encountered bit me!

"Why are you here then?" I say in an accusing tone.

"To help you. I was alone when I was first turned and it didn't go so well," he murmurs scratching his neck.

"Turned?" I repeat confused.

"Turned from a human to a vampire," he says cautiously.

What the heck is he talking about? I wasn't turned! The perverted vampire just bit me and acted like I was some kind of human sized juice pouch. But I didn't drink his blood like they show on "The Vampire Diaries" so I'm fine. Wait no I'm not if I don't drink some human blood and become a vampire I'll die, right?

"Human sized juice pouch,that's funny."

"Respect the pouch," I say seriously.

"I'm sorry to tell you, but everything you see on television isn't true. You don't have to drink the vampire's blood to be turned into a vampire. Just the bite will turn you if the vampire uses their venom," he says.

"So I'm a vampire," I ask in disbelief.

"Yes," he nods.

"This can't be happening! Vampires are my second biggest fear, I can't just be one!" I begin to freak out.

He appears in front of me in less than a second. "It's okay, you're okay. I'll help you, I promise. You'll be an awesome vampire because you have an awesome teacher," he says trying to comfort me and lighten the mood.

"I don't want to kill people! I don't want to drink blood! Oh God I'm going to have to drink blood aren't I?" I say pressing my unusually pale hand to my forehead.

"Yeah you are," he winces.

"I can't kill someone! I won't do it!" I whisper fiercely. I begin pacing and tugging my hand through my hair.

"Well that vampire show you mentioned earlier didn't get that part wrong. You don't have to kill anyone. You can drink blood bags," he reassures me.

"Really! That's great! " I cheer. "Well I still don't want to drink blood, that's gross. But at least I don't have to hurt anyone."

Since I'm done panicking and can now focus on other things, I take my first good look at the stranger, who has been with me since I woke up. He has black, short, yet messy hair and amazing green eyes and thin pink lips. He looks to be about 6'1 in height. He's well built and I can see the imprint of his six pack since he's wearing a tight, green t-shirt. Overall, he's pretty darn attractive like really freaking attractive.

"Yes, yes I know I'm sexy, but please don't drool," he says all conceited like.

"Get out of my head! And also I would never drool," I say indignantly.

"Sorry it's a habit, but I can teach you to put up a mental block. Also, you don't have to be embarrassed plenty of girls have drooled over me. One girl even had this long line of drool and it hung down then got stuck to her shirt," he smirks smugly.

"Yes please teach me! I don't want you or that pervert rifling around in there," I nod.

"That will be lesson one in your vampire training," he nods.

"Cool and I know you made that up about that girl drooling on her shirt," I say unconvinced.

"Nope it was a true story,"he chuckles.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night, but like I said I would never drool."

"Whatever you say. Let's get going," he says and starts marching in the opposite direction of my house.

"Go where?" I ask confused.

"Well I have a house on the edge of the woods and I have a spare room," he says and just keeps on walking.

"Um I have a home with my mom and dad," I say hooking my thumb over my shoulder in the direction of my house.

"Now isn't really a good time for you to be around humans," he says looking at me now.

"Dude it's my parents, I'm pretty sure I can handle myself. Plus I don't even know your name I'm not just going to go home with you," I say.

"My name is Lexis and I really don't think it's a good idea," Lexis sighs.

"I'm Harper and I think it's a great idea considering my parents have most likely figured out I snuck out last night and are probably now freaking out since I'm not home," I say firmly with my hands on my hips.

"Okay Harper. How about we make a deal. We head to my place first and you have a few blood bags so you don't rip your parents' heads off. Then we go to their house," he says with an eyebrow raised.

"I would never hurt my parents," I huff while throwing him my best glare.

"Better safe than sorry," he replies coolly.

"Fine," I sigh and start to follow him.

~~~~~~~~~
 Welp, Harper's a vamp now which isn't surprising because of the title and description and duh.
Lexis. Friend or foe?
