Chapter 1.

-

3 weeks had come and gone in my new town in New York. We were pretty much settled in to the new house.

I only left my new room for food and the restroom. My parents left me to myself the first week, in understanding of my pain. The second week, however, they began to get worried. I could tell because it seemed every five minutes there was a knock at my door.

Today is Monday, start of the 3rd week, and I'm actually going to attempt to go out. I tie my hair in a messy bun, throw on a hoodie, jeans, and my vans before walking downstairs.

"Allison! Goodmorning." My mother smiled at me from the kitchen.

"Hey." I tried to smile back.

I walked past her and grabbed my car keys.

"Where are you going? I made bre-"

I stopped her there. Why would I eat breakfast here? Wait why am I thinking that.. I love mom's breakfasts! Then again.. Maybe I should go.

"I was gonna go look at the schools.. you do already have me enrolled, right?" I lie.

"Oh that sounds great! And yes, we enrolled you last week. School is starting back here on Monday... Did you want some breakfast before you go?"

"No thanks..." I walk towards the door.

"Allison?" I hear my father walking towards me.

Great. What does he want?!

I turn around on my heels.

"I just wanted to tell you we love you."

Apart of me wants to run into him and hug him, yet the rest of me just doesn't have the motivation.

"Oh. Thanks.." I open the front door and walk to my car.

I start the car and turn on the radio. Some hard rock song that I've never heard of comes on. I reach my hand to the dial to change it because I don't listen to rock... But I stop myself because this actually seems pretty catchy..

I back out of the driveway and find myself tapping my hand on the steering wheel to the beat of the music. I think I might actually like this song..

"However long it takes, I'll make it back to you.."

Wait.. Did I just sing along..? What am I doing.. I don't listen to this music.. Do I?

Well, I like it.

I guess.

I pull on to the road heading in to town.. I think.. I hope..

Well at this point it doesn't even matter. I just need to drive.

In my luck, the road took me into town. I look up at the stores around me. There's some sort of a movie theater, a gas station, McDonald's, and a mall. Well.. I do need some clothes for school.. School! Wait didn't mom say that starts next Monday...?

I don't know a single person in this town yet I am expected to walk into a school and make new friends just like that. All my real friends probably already forgot who I am. I haven't even gotten a text from Rayleigh yet today..

When I almost run into a parked car in front of the store I realize now is not the time to think about this.

I find a spot and park. I pull my purse over my shoulder and step out of the car and lock it before walking towards the entrance.

I open the door to the mall and walk in. When I walk in I am greeted by the sight of hundreds of people, mostly what appears to be young teenagers and their parents walking through the stores.

I walk past a few children's stores before finally seeing Forever 21. I walk into the store and immediately spot a gorgeous flowered dress. When I walk up to the rack, I am immediately reminded of one of my old friends named Maria. She had the same dress..

Before the tears form, I look to the next thing in the store.

Next to the dress rack I see a grey cardigan. Hmm that's pretty cute..

And look, my size.

I take the cardigan off the rack and hold it over my arm and look around to the rest of the store. I spot a navy blue infinity scarf. I put it in my arms as well. Then I turn and find a pink sparkly top.. But beside it I find a silver-studded black chiffon top. For some reason the black top is suddenly more appealing..

I find a gold necklace with a small gold rose on it. Simple.

I decide to drop the whole "southern girl" style I had going in Georgia. You know, leather sandals, bubble necklaces, maxi dresses, pearls... It all reminds me too much of home.

Since I'm in a new state I might as well try something different.

I pay for the clothes and walk out of the store. When I walk out, I almost run into a boy that looks to be about my age.

"Uh, I'm sorry.." I begin.

"No worries. It's my fault for not watching where I was going. So my bad."

He's talking in an Irish accent. I wonder what he's doing in New York? But then again.. He probably wonders the same thing about me and my southern accent..

"Well it's okay, uh, yeah.." I respond and he lets out a chuckle and walks away.

From what I could see, he was wearing a New York Yankees snapback. Maybe he lives here?

Anyway, I decided to next go to a shoe store. When I walked in, a pair of black combat boots drew my eye. I saw a pair of Rainbow Sandals beside them (southern favorite), and surprisingly, it wasn't a hard choice, since I decided to stick to my new motto of 'since I'm in a new place I might as well try something different'.

After stopping by a few more stores and buying some more clothes that fit my 'new' style of clothing, I walked back out to the car and loaded it up.

When I sat down and started the car, I realized my gas was almost on E. I pulled out of the mall parking lot and right across the drive was a gas station.

I pulled into one of the pumps and parked.

I got out of the car and standing at the pump in front of me was the same Irish guy from the mall.
