"It wasn't my fault!" I yelled, still hanging off the bridge. His footsteps echoed closer, but his mouth made no sound. "I didn't do what I did to hurt you. I did it to protect them."
He stared down at me, a small smile playing at his lips. Lips that before I had known so well. Slowly, he reached down and grabbed my elbow to drag me up.
"Thank y-" The act of mercy was quickly changed when he threw me backwards against the railing. He ran over to me and held his hand flat in the air, sending a pain into my heart.
"I've been waiting for three years to see you die," he said, staring into my eyes while smoke gathered around us; shielding us from view of the public.
"Don't you know that the good guys always win?" I whispered as the metalic taste of blood filled my mouth.
"I don't believe in good guys anymore sweetheart." He didn't break the stare as he twisted his hand through the air. At the same moment the pain in my chest tightened, and then burst into a pain I'd never before felt.
And my heart was in his hands.
