" I spy with my little eye, something blue,"

" Daddy's shirt, Mommy. Daddy's shirt!" Mom smiles at my little brother's outburst. I roll my eyes at him. Being 15 and taking a trip across the US from Michigan to California with a 3 year old little kid gets annoying really fast.

"That's right, baby," my mother cooes. "Michele, how come you're not playing?" she asks with a disdainful look.

" 'Cause there's no point," I say as I put my other earpiece in and block her out. It's bad enough that we are going to see our relatives that my parents haven't seen since they found out my mom was pregnant with me. Since my mom was only sixteen and my dad nineteen, they decided to move across the U.S., so they wouldn't have to deal with their families scorn. Now, here we are fifteen years later, going to see meet relatives I have no interest in seeing.

According to my mother I look like my grandmother when she was younger. I have the same long blonde hair that it naturally curly, peircing blue eyes, and the ability to maintain a tan year round. Whereas, my mother looks like my grandfather with her straight brown hair, green eyes, and fair complexion. Fortunately I didn't inherit any looks from my father. My little brother on the other hand, got his messy red hair and hazel eyes from our dad. The only thing I inherited from my dad was his short temper and a knack for academic success.

I am at the top of my sophomore class with a 4.0 gpa and a wall lined with awards. I am attending local college classes to earn credits for my veterinary career. My mom and I both have a way with animals, so we thought it was best that i had the career that she never got. Mom said that she doesn't regret having me, she just wishes that she could've finished her schooling.

We arrive at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. " Alright everybody out. It's time for a pitstop," my dad says as he parks the car by the gas pump.

" Uh dad? Where are we exactly?" I question taking in my surroundings. There's not much of anything except for a small convenience store and the gas station. The rest is nothing but road and forests behind the only two buildings.

" Honestly I don't know. This place isn't marked on the map, but we needed gas, so I'm glad it's here," he answers returning his attention back to the gas pump. I decide to go check out the convenience store and see if there's anything worth my money. Despite it's shabby appearance on the outside, the inside of the store is quite big and well stocked. I walk in between the aisles of chips and other junk food looking for something good to munch on during the car ride. I grab some jerky and a couple of Loca Mocha Monsters. I keep walking to the back of the store not really paying attention. In the last aisle something shiny catches my attention. I take it off the hook and look at it more closely. I realize that it's a shiny obsidian wolf necklace. The black wolf is in a howling position and in its center is a silver colored star. I decided that I want to buy it. I take all my items to the cash register and ring the bell for the worker. A boy around my age comes out from the back room. The first thing I notice about him is his piercing blue eyes. He is tall for a boy around 16 or 17 standing at what looks like over 6'0 tall. His smile is gorgeous. He smiles as he walks towards me, his jet black hair falling into his eyes.

" Hi, sorry for the wait. We don't usually get many customers. Especially as pretty as you," he adds the last part with a sheepish smile.

" Oh.. Um.. Thank you," I stutter awkwardly feeling my face redden at his compliment.

" What can can do for you?" he asks as he runs his fingers through his hair getting it out of his eyes. I can't help but stare at his gorgeous complexion. He smiles as he sees me staring at him. I look down embarrassed.

" I need to check out, please," I say placing my objects on the counter.

" Sure thing," he says scanning the items one by one. " Where'd you find this?" he asks holding up the wolf necklace.

" On the last aisle. Why?"

" There's no price tag and I don't think we sell these," he says looking puzzled. " Well since there's no price tag finders keepers I guess," he hands me my bag of snacks and the necklace.

" Oh, thank you," I tell him as I put the necklace on.

" No problem. What's you're name by the way?"

"Michele, what's yours?"

" Nico," he replies with a breathtaking smile. "Where are you heading if you don't mind me asking?"

" California," I says somewhat regretfully.

"Um are you guys lost? 'Cause uh you're in Cali," he tells me looking somewhat confused.

"Hang on I got to go tell my dad that he read the map wrong," I walk out of the store and find my dad looking at his map by the car. "Hey dad uh, we are already in Cali,"

"I realized that," he tells me frowning. I walk back into the store to gather my things. He quickly scrawls his number on the back of my receipt and hands it to me. I blush and say thank you before I walk out of the store into the car. I don't know why, ever since I laid eyes on him I didn't want to be away from him.
