Seven Years Ago:

BOOOOOM! BOOOOM!

Thunder sounded like a wild snare drum in the sky, lightning flashing, and rain pouring down mimicking the sounds of a rainstick. Power had already been lost an hour ago, lights only source was from the Full moon that still glowed in the night. Winds soared across the trees that melody rivaled the heaviest music, low and rapid. The scenery seemed like it belonged on an artist’s canvas, beautiful yet dangerous. Music and art was coming together in perfect harmony, balancing each other out in their little faults.

To others this was just another bad storm that would most likely last all night long but I found it to be its own melody, music. I sat there on the edge of my window seat listening to the storm rage like a war with my eyes calmly closed. Usually nine year olds were terrified by this weather but I found some peace in it.

Music can be found anywhere all you had to do was listen carefully. Separate yourself from the real world and travel to a different plane just by closing your eyes and opening you ears, your mind picturing everything.

I was the only one still up, Mom already asleep and dad still working late, again. Lily, my sister, didn’t come out of her room much which at the time didn’t worry me being only nine even though I was smarter than most. I loved my sister but we couldn’t do much together being seven years apart. Not to mention she was always busy studying or cheering to do anything.

BAM!

I quickly flashed my eyes open and looked to my door waiting. I knew I heard something faint but I couldn’t tell if it was just something apart of the storm. Jumping off the window seat I headed to my door and out to the hall. Nothing appeared to be different, everything in its place and nothing broken. The sound wasn’t like the thunder from before though, more like something falling and breaking but from where?

“Is someone there?”

My heart started pounding faster and harder like a drum. I couldn’t describe it but something felt wrong, out of place. Terror suddenly took over as I clenched my nightgown and slowly approached my sister’s door where the sound seemed to come from.

“Lily?”

No response came but there was movement going on quickly.

“Lily, are you ok?”

Again no response came. Fear was growing inside me as I stared at her bedroom door, my hand on the door knob.

Come on Lila you can do it, I encouraged myself, just twist the knob and walk in.

Twisting the metal doorknob and opening the door I fearfully walked into lilys room. The room was encased in total darkness not even able to see two feet in front of me. There was a faint breeze coming from the right that chilled my bones to the core adding more goose bumps to my bare arms. Truthfully her room was like a giant freezer.

BOOOOOOOOOM! BAAAAAAAAMM!

Lightning suddenly flashed across the sky, filling the room with a bright white light. My heart dropped. Blood drained from my face as I fell back against the wall letting out a blood curdling scream that pierced the night.

Seven Years Later:

The halls were crowded with students as they rushed off to their fourth block, the last class of the day. I couldn’t help but let out a dreadful sigh as I walked to French II. I didn’t want the school day to end ever.

“Hey Lila.”

I hated this school yes but I found this place better than my home.

“Lila you’re looking hot today.”
