Chapter 4

*Amber's POV*

I drove to Josh's house since he wanted to grab a few things. When I walked inside I was surprised by a black lab.

"You have a dog?" I asked thinking about the numerous times Liam asked for one.

"Yeah, can she come with us?"

"Yeah sure. She just has to be quiet. I don't want her to wake him up."

He got a small bag of things he thought he would need and then we were on our way back.

When we got back Lily was already packed for Calgary. I told Josh where he could sleep and then asked Lily if I could talk to her in the hall.

"Can you explain why you are planning on leaving when you promised to watch Liam?"

"I was going to wait until you got home. And I wasn't expecting you to bring home some random stranger with a dog." she told me.

"He isn't some random stranger. He is Liam's father." I told her.

"What? Oh you are such an idiot. He tells you how perfect you are and you bring him home again. If I get a phone call in 4 weeks with you telling me you're pregnant again I will slap you."

"You've never been in Calgary for longer than 2 weeks. How long are you staying?" I asked.

"Forever. Derek asked me to marry him so I am but we can't plan over video chat." she said smiling.

"But I need you here. I'm probably going to lose my job soon. And then the apartment. Then Liam." I told her.

"Serves you right for not getting an abortion." she told me as she turned around and walked down the hallway.

I went back into the apartment, closed the door, and started to cry. I couldn't do this alone. It's hard enough when she goes away for a weekend. How am I supposed to do this forever?

"You okay?" I looked up. Josh was standing over me.

"Yeah, I just don't know what to do about this anymore."

"Maybe you just need some real help." he told me.

"What like you?" I asked.

"Sure. Why not?"

"Because last time we spent the night together you left me."

"One of my family members got into a car accident and I had to see if they were okay."

"That seems reasonable. Come on, lets go to bed."

*Josh's POV*

I woke up the next morning still shocked over last nights events. I walked into the kitchen and I saw Amber by the toaster.

"What do you want for breakfast?" she asked taking a scoop of peanut butter out of the jar and sticking it in her mouth.

"What do you have?"

"Cereal and toast."

"I'll take the toast." she put 2 slices of bread in the toaster and turned it on.

"I'm going to go wake up Liam." she told me.

As I ate my toast I heard mumbled talking coming from the other room. A minute later they came out of his room.

"Mommy, last night I had a dream about daddy. And I had a little sister too." Liam said still wiping tears from his eyes.

"Really? Well I have some news for you." before she could finish what she was saying, Bennie came running into the room to say hi to Liam.

"You got a puppy!!" Liam said with his eyes filled with excitement.

"She's actually a friend of mines. Liam meet Josh. Josh meet Liam. Liam, he is your dad."

Liam walked up to me and looked at me. He looked like he was going to ask me so many questions but instead, he just hugged my leg. After he finished hugging my leg he got some cereal and sat down in a chair.

"I got a lot of sleep last night mommy." he said.

"Really? Did you know that you grow in your sleep? Come on, lets go see how much you've grown." she told him putting his empty bowl in the sink.

She went to measure him. "Wow! You've grown this much!" she told him showing him that he had grown 2 inches.

He ran over to me. "Daddy look at how much I grew!"

"Woah! You've grown so much!" I told him as I picked him up and put him on my lap. "So Liam, your mom tells me you like the Rescue Bots."

"It's my favourite show."

"Do you know who sings the theme song?" I asked him.

"Some person?"

"Well yes. It's me. I sing the theme song."

Liam starred at me with wide eyes. He was in awe.

"Okay Liam. Get dressed we're going to go to the park." Amber told Liam.

"Is daddy coming with us?" he asked.

"Daddy has to go to work." she told him.

"Really?" he said turning to me.

"Yeah but there is a park near where I work, you can go there."

"Okay." Liam said going into his room to get dressed.

"What did you mean about losing your job last night?" I asked.

"Manager's firing people and I know I'm that list. I just need to be ready."

"I'll help you if you ever need it." I told her.

"I don't need you're help."
