Ellie woke from her dream; "god dam flashbacks" Ellie muttered. She sat up and sighed as she could hear the birds in the trees above her. The forest was always the best on mornings but no-one could really enjoy the scenery in a such a horror filled world. Not even Ellie.
She crabbed her crossbow and her backpack and gave one last glance at the campfire she had set up. Time to move on.

It seemed like she had been walking for hours yet she was still in the same place. The forest was a maze that looked exactly the same and no-one could tell the difference.
She sat on a rock and pulled out her last can of beans - only a few mouthfuls left. Enough for today. This would go nice with a bit of meat tonight so she decided to eat some berries instead so she could save the beans for later. She took a deep breathe in and a deep breathe out and let the cool air run through her hair.

"Oh god, no" she muttered startled.

"It's been too long before we've seen the rest of the group guys..... You have to accept the fact that they might not of.."
"Can it, Neil" a tall unshaven but well spoken man snapped.
Ellie crept behind the rock she was sat on and graped her knife in her hands. She didn't need to remind herself to be quiet because she was accustomed to the odd group wondering past.
Only a small boy (6-7) in the group was wearing a mask - must be their only one. The air was pretty safe to breathe in the countryside it was just the cities you had to avoid, looks like these people figured this out in time.

Ellie crawled to the bushes where she hid and watched from a safe distance until she heard one of the 4, who hadn't spoken at all, delicately say she was feeling faint so the group stopped a short amount from her. Neil (the first to speak) throw a stone at a tree and declared he would collect some wood. The other man walked off and took the boy with him. The boy was holding a homemade bow and arrow and the man began telling him they should start with squirrels or birds first. Must be teaching him to hunt. Not bad she thought.
That left the woman who was on the rock. Ellie turned to the rock watching carefully.

"What....what....where...." Ellie stood up disoriented and began to look around panicked. She heard a noise to the left of her and she crouched down slowly. The woman had found her beans she dropped. No way! She thought. She grabbed her knife and slowly stalked her way to her until the knife was at the back of her neck.

"Drop" she growled.

The women turned to her with empty eyes and froze for several seconds until she looked down at the can.

"No" she managed to mutter.

Ellie pressed the knife harder on her neck until blood began to ooze from a small cut that started to form.

The woman let out a blood curdling scream. She hadn't heard such a scream since the beginning of the outbreak on that dreadful night.
"Shhhh...no you've got to be quiet..." Ellie knew her group would be back in seconds. She couldn't take them on all at once. Not with just a knife and a crossbow that's for sure.
