Silver reflected against the mirror as I played with the necklace my mother gave me when I was born. The small tag on it with the letters "lsm" stamped onto the back that rested against my skin. The sun engraved into the front and the small yellow gemstone shining in the light, but sadly not glowing.
As I grew older my Mother explained the prophecy to my sisters, Luna, Faye, and I. We were a family of witches and each of our necklaces were possessed by a spell, a love spell to be exact.
When we were born, our parents would choose our Warlock to marry and would not tell us who they were. The Warlock was given an identical match to our necklaces and a stamp of our initials on the back. She told us that the glowing would grow stronger as we came closer to finding our love.
"Alaina are you ready?" Luna asked popping her head into my room, her dark brown hair flowing over her shoulders. The small green stone between the engraved moon on her necklace shined in the sun as well.
Today was our first day of college, among other Witches and Warlocks. All our lives we were forced into Mortal school, also known a test to keep our powers hidden until we were mature enough to learn them and all the possibilities that came with them.
I grabbed my backpack as well as my wand before heading downstairs seeing Faye was already ready. Luna retrieved her wand and Faye pulled hers out of her back pocket before we touched them together, allowing us to transport to the college.
I never expected college to be so huge. Trees spanning the perimeter as a barrier to the Mortal world and people littered the campus, many with their wand in hand.
"Wow," was all Faye could muster as Luna and I stood speechless.
I spotted the registration desk and we made our way over, moving up in the line until we reached the front, "Name?" The girl asked from behind it.
"The Kim Family," I said, and she nodded. Flipping through the binder before marking off the name and handing me three copies of keys and our class schedules, before pointing us in the direction of the dorm.
"Room Seventeen, Salem Hall. Are all the buildings named after clans?" Faye asked as we made our way to the room, causing Luna and I to shrug.
Once we reached it I unlocked the door and walked in, our belongings already transferred over thanks to the spell Luna cast earlier.
The room was more of a mini apartment, Consisting of two beds on the lower level and a sleeping loft above it. A small kitchen sat on the right and then bathroom on the left.
I looked at the paperwork the girl at the registry gave me, seeing we had our first class in less than an hour. Luna let out a groan as I told her we had to get going and we then left, heading to the auditorium.
When we walked in all eyes seemed to fall on us as everyone else was rather early for the first class. Glancing around I found three open seats and we made our way to them.
Once we sat down talk seemed to erupt around us, multiple points and stares coming in our direction, causing Faye to snap and yell a few classmates out before turning back to us.
I watched as Luna's eyes turned green and I knew she was using her spell for mind reading, her eyes returning to their normal shade of brown after, "Everyone is saying that we're the weak links of the group, they heard we went to Mortal School,"
I rolled my eyes and glanced as Faye who was on the verge of snapping again and I diverted her attention away and towards me, "Just prove them wrong, don't waste your breath,"
She nodded and turned back towards the front of the room, watching as our teacher walked up. The cliche story about witches coming true as she walked up in her cloak, hood and all.
"Hello class, I am Dr. Lee, headmaster of Hallow College," she spoke, her bright blue eyes contrasting compared to her black hair, "Here you will learn how to become proper Witches and Warlocks. The power you possess is incredible and here you will learn how to use it properly and not recklessly,"
"Buzzkill," I heard Faye mumble under her breathe and I couldn't help but laugh while she shrugged her shoulders at me, as to say she wasn't wrong.
"Miss. Faye Kim, do you have something to say?" I heard the headmaster ask, and saw Faye immediately shake her head before answering with a "no ma'am"
Great the first day and one of us has already been called out.
Soon the class had ended and the Headmaster dismissed us to go and check out the rest of the campus. The courtyard was filled with booths and banners from clubs and I was immediately interested.
Some club names seemed familiar such as "Chemistry Club", and others seemed foreign such as "Quidditch".
Luna and I made our way to the Volleyball booth to sign up for tryouts, and Faye did the same for Soccer. Once we signed up we made our way to the center of the courtyard, the sound of music filling our ears.
We peeked our heads around the crowd to see a group of four boys dancing perfectly in sync to a club song. When they finished, the smallest of the four stood up, "Dance Team tryouts are tonight in the dance hall, ten o'clock,"
Then another member with bleach blonde hair stepped forward, "Make sure to bring your best choreography and audio, since we will only be selecting 6 new members," I glanced over at Luna and wiggled my eyebrows as the group left and made their way back to their table, a small crowd following them to sign up.
I watched as Luna chewed on her nails, "What if i don't make it, I want to try out. I just don't to make a fool of myself,"
I rolled my eyes and gently pushed her towards the table, "You'll be fine, you were dance captain for a reason," She gave me a smile and I watched as she made her way to the table, signing her name then talking with the dancers.
Looking away, I saw Faye come back over to me, multiple flyers in her hands, "Looks like someone is going to be a social butterfly this year," I laughed sarcastically and she rolled her eyes, "Hey, it doesn't hurt. Plus I want to prove everyone wrong,"
"Ah I knew there was an ulterior motive somewhere," I said as she shrugged her shoulders with a grin before handing me a piece of paper with the words "Vocal Club" printed across the top. She watched as I read over the paper then spoke, "I already signed both of us up, auditions are at ten o'clock in the gym,"
I gave her a look as to say 'are you serious?' and she just laughed, turning her attention to Luna as she came back to us, "Um, our necklaces are glowing,"
"Oh Luna no they're not-" I stopped when I saw Faye's necklace flash with a small glow, Luna and I's doing the same. The day had finally come, and we were only steps closer from finding our True Love's.
