Prologue
Autumn took a deep breath, exiting the office and entering her new life at Hope Middle School. She jumped as the bell rang loudly, signaling the end of first period and the beginning of the five minute passing period. Looking down at her schedule to check what class she had for second period, she saw that she had Math 6 with Mr.Miller. Great, my worst subject, she thought sarcastically.
Looking up, she noticed that all eyes were trained on her as she walked through the hallways. The tiny little brown haired, green eyed, tan skinned sixth grader. People around her towered above by several inches as she shuffled through the crowd, trying to get to the math room across the hallway.
She was staring at her feet so intently that she didn't notice that she was walking straight at someone until she was kncoked on her butt by the sheer force of it.
"Ugh," Letting out a huge breath as she went down, she slammed her head on the ground. Can you say, OW?
"Oh, jeez, my bad, are you okay?" A boy's voice said, but it sounded muffled due to the pounding headache she now had.
"Yeah, just peachy," She joked with more sarcasm than intended.
Opening her eyes, she found herself staring at a pair of wide, dark eyes. She pulled back a little, startled at the closeness, but also kind of to see the rest of him.
And, dang, was it fine.
His skin was almost the same dark tan as mine, his dark hair purposely messed up. I could clearly see defined muscles through his thin long-sleeved white shirt.
"I am so sorry," Xander said in a rushed voice. The poor little thing looked like she had all of the air knocked out of her. He felt horrible. He held out his hand to the tiny girl, helping her up to her feet.
"Thanks," She said, bending down to pick up her things. He didn't miss the tiny blush spreading across her cheeks, which made him smile a little bit. She was utterly cute.
"What do you have next? I can walk you there, if you want," He offered. She was probably the new girl, considering he would have definitely noticed her if she'd been around all these years.
"Math 6," She sqeaked, not directly meeting his gaze.
"Oh, me too!" He grinned, probably looking like a goof, but it earned a smile from the girl.
Xander turned on his heel, beginning to walk to the Math room, feeling light and happy as to how this day was going. He made small talk with the shy little girl that nervously trailed behind him.
"Oh, and by the way, my name is Xander, if you need me or anything," Xander stated at the doorway. So smooth. Not.
"Autumn," She replied quietly.
He smiled and went over to sit by a group of boys, while she took a seat next to his best friend of all time, Sommer. How ironic- Sommer and Autumn, two seasons. He held back a laugh and tried his best to pay attention to the teacher who was beggining to ramble on about some crap he didn't care about.
About thirty minutes into class, he noticed he'd been staring at Autumn this whole time. He blinked and looked away, only to turn back again. This time she caught his staring. Her face broke into a smile, before leaning in to hear something Sommer was saying. Please don't say anything embarrasing, Sommer, please!
Autumn, pulled back and stifled a laugh, her body shaking. Oh, wonderful.
Rolling his eyes, Xander opened up his notebook with the rest of the class and desperately tried to avoid looking at anything but his oh-so exciting notes about linear equations. A half an hour later, the bell rang shrilly, causing everyone to cringe. There was the sound of metal grating on tile and then all of the students were all pushing their way out of the narrow doorway.
"Hey, Z!" Someone shouted in Xander's ear. It was Sommer's annoying nickname for me, but she wasn't speaking.
Then Autumn stood in front of him with Sommer in tow, giggling like a maniac. How had Sommer turned the shy little girl I'd practically bulldozed in the hallway into a brunette version of herself? The world may never know.
"Jeez, Sommer, she's been here for all of one hour and you are already teaching her bad things?" He accused, pulling her into a headlock and messing her stick straight hair up.
"Aw, now look what you've done!" She shrieked as he ran her fingers through her staticky hair.
Autumn slapped his arm. "You are despicable!"
"What? Is that a new rule? No messing with hair?"
"As a matter of fact, yes."
"Okay, then," Xander pulled Autumn over and did the same thing to her hair.
"Butt face!" She shouted,
The two girls stood in front of him, arms crossed, face serious. They might actually be kind of intimidating if it weren't for Autumn's size and their hair being completely haywire. It actually had a cute effect on her.
He couldn't hold it in anymore. Xander burst into laughter, startling the girls and the people around me. Sommer and Autumn huffed, then walked away without saying a word.
Xander officially loved the new girl.
