DAN's P.O.V.
It was dark out. Dark, and fairly cloudy, insinuating that here would be rain approaching us soon. I couldn't tell the temperature, as my species can not feel what you measly humans call 'cold'.
I was running, sprinting actually, trying to get away.
I wanted to finally be free. Free from the torment of my species.
I was ready to just fold already. They were ten times faster than me, the elders, but it seemed as though they were trying to tire me out.
I needed to find a populated area. They won't attack me if there are... Humans... present.
I twisted around a corner, my sides burning, feeling as if they were on fire.
I kept running, ignoring my unhealthy athleticism and turned another corner...
Running straight into another person.
PHIL's P.O.V.
I was simply walking home, after a long day of working at the library, when it happened.
I had decided to stop for some coffee, dropping by Starbucks to get my drink but also to chat with Louise, who still worked there for some reason, even after all these years.
I was walking down the pavement when I walked straight into a head-on collision with a stranger.
Holy sh- NO!
Holy cow, that's an attractive stranger.
He had dark brown hair, slightly damp, that was sticking to his tanned forehead. His eyes were a dark, chocolate brown, with a sense of... Warmth to them. He was panting slightly, and still lying on the ground, so I quickly stood up, stuttering out an apology.
"I-I'm so sorry! Oh jesus, look what I've done... I'm so so sorry!"
I tried to help him up, reaching for his hand, but he shoved it away and quickly stood up, examining me.
"It's fine. I'm fine. Who are you? Do you mind if I walk with you? It's urgent." The man replied, staring me straight in the eye.
I fumbled with my hands nervously, feeling shy under his intimidating gaze.
"U-uh... My name is Phil... I guess you can walk with me... I can take you down to the Starbucks that is about ten minutes from here, if you want? Who are you, anyway? Why were you running?" I said, gaining confidence from seemingly no where.
The strangers gaze didn't falter.
"That'd be great, thanks. The names Dan. No matter why I'm running, I just need to get away. Can we go?"
I nodded, beckoning him to follow me down the pavement, awkwardly tense silence following us.
DAN's P.O.V.
The stranger, Phil, was leading me down the street, taking me to one of the coffee shops I'd heard humans keep.
Starbucks, I think he'd called it.
I followed briskly behind him, not speaking.
I know the elders are behind me at this moment, but they won't strike because of Phil.
They can't risk outing our species to the rest of the world.
Not a chance.
We suddenly approached a large green and tan building, with a weird lady's face in the middle of a cup, it seemed.
"Here we are, Starbucks. Do you need to call someone?" Phil asked, looking back at me.
I shook my head no, then strode towards the door, stopping for a moment.
I looked back at him.
"Thanks, by the way. I appreciate it."
I suddenly stopped, my 'breathing' faltering.
I don't know how I hadn't noticed before, but god damn his eyes.
PHIL's P.O.V.
I walked DAN towards the Starbucks, quietly wishing he would say something.
I couldn't quite say what it was, but something about him just... Intrigued me.
We stopped in front of the Starbucks, and I led him towards the door.
He stopped right in front of it, looking back at me.
For once his tough demeanor softened, and he looked down slightly.
"Thanks, by the way. I appreciate it." He said.
He suddenly stopped, his breathing faltering slightly, giving the impression of awestruck.
I froze, looking at his eyes.
They were no longer a warm brown.
They were pitch black, the entire eye completely taken over.
I screamed.
I suddenly felt a cold presence take over my body, and I saw Dan start to realize something was happening.
"Fuck!" He yelled, running at me.
I screamed again, terrified he was going to do something to me, before the cold presence was gone.
I fell to the pavement, bleeding, before I saw him.
Dan was standing there, his brown eyes black again, and his hair turning red at the tips.
The scariest part?
The giant wings protruding out of his back.
I shrieked.
"Shut the hell up!" Dan yelled at me, and I immediately shut my mouth.
"Listen, I don't have a lot of time to explain before more come, but you need to get the fuck out of here now. All you need to know is Demons. Very, very powerful demons. Don't question it. Don't ponder it. Just run. Save yourself." Dan said, looking at me stressfully.
And run I did.
And I didn't stop, until I was sure they wouldn't be able to find me.
I was wrong.
I felt the cold presence again, and I whirled around to be greeted by the most horrifying sight I've ever seen.
It looked almost like a dementor from Harry Potter.
It was ghost like, and black/gray.
I screamed, jumping backwards.
I guess it got Dan.
With that thought in mind, his words kept replaying in my mind.
"Demons."
"Save yourself."
"Run."
And run he did.
