'Crystal!' My boyfriend lifted me up and spun me around. 'Travis, down boy!' I squelled. He pulled me in and nuzzled my neck and kissed. I wrapped my hands around him and breathed in his scent. My mate. The moon shone on us. It was late at night, and we decided to have a midnight stroll from the cabin we were staying at.
We were having a holiday in North Canada. We came from a small pack in California, werewolves living happily amounst the humans. We had never seen snow. And during a time of peace within the war against the dead, the unwelcome, the wraiths. This was the only time of peace with me and my alpha mate, Travis.
Blonde hair, grey eyes, beautiful smile, handsome face, deep voice that made me melt. He was all i ever wanted, my child-hood best friend and lover. And here we were, engaged and in temporary peace. I dragged him towards the lake. It was the start of winter, the lake was semi-frozen, the pine trees lined the lake a few metres in. Mountains in the distance snow capped and looking young.
He cupped my face and kissed my lips pulling back almost immediately leaving little sparks on my lips. 'I'm so happy that you are mine' He whispered before kissing me. I stepped back only to slip on the ice backwards and landing on my back onto the semi frozen lake. I grunted and watched as Travis fell to the ground laughing. I kicked him in the shins. He collapsed in a mix of laughter and pain. 'God Travis why you gotta be a jerk.' I said pushing myself up and jumping on him. I sat on his stomach and pinched his cheek. Something i used to do when we were younger. He struggled and then i felt a pinch in my ribs. I squealed and jumped up. I ran onto the ice, slipping and sliding I only went as far as the ice was stronger. I spun around to see Travis looking at me with a horrified face. I returned his expression with confusion. 'Crystal! Look out!' He yelled. I looked at him questioning his reaction only to feel a sharp pain in my back.
I crashed into the ice, it broke under me. My vision blurred but just enough to see Travis scream and shift into his beautiful silver wolf. A black, burnt coated figure hovered over me. Its boney hand glowing blue like ice. I sunk into the dark abyss of the lake, chilling me to the bone. I felt cold, the light from the full moon shone through the broken ice and onto my body.
'Hac nocte, ac die mensis huius generis exempla salvum evigilabit ad tenebras. Eritis editi reginae.'
The whisper of a woman filled my head. My vision darkened, and cold over-came me.
