After several hours of driving, we arrived at our new home. It was absolutely beautiful. The bright summer sun was illuminating the creamy coloured plaster coating the exterior of the house, making it glow, and luscious green leaves and pink flowers wound their way up the side of the walls attached to vines. The grass of the front lawn was so green, it looked as though it wasn’t even real, but when I stood on it I could feel that soft, bouncy feeling that only real grass has (I‘m assuming synthetic grass would have been made of plastic, and wouldn‘t feel as nice). The inside was spacious, with huge windows, letting in tons of natural light, and the back garden was absolutely huge, with a large swimming pool and a gorgeous view of the beach. The moment I stepped foot inside the house, I fell in love with it. I knew immediately that I could definitely get used to living there. It was like one of those beautiful vista mansions you saw on the television that all the movie stars resided in, and that you could never imagine yourself occupying. But I did live there, and I was finding it very difficult to accept the reality of that, nevertheless, it was making me happy. Rocket didn’t even bother looking round, he just stormed straight upstairs to his…our bedroom. I followed him shortly after, simply out of curiosity. I wanted to see what our room was like.

When I entered, I found him laying on his bed staring blankly at the ceiling, something he did often anyway, which is why I hardly even noticed him when I went into the room. It…was…HUGE. This room was the size of about four of my old bedrooms put together. Directly in front of me when I stepped in was a massive window stretching the length of that entire wall. On closer inspection, I realised that this wasn’t a window, but a door leading out onto a balcony with an amazing view of the ocean.

“Wow…” I whispered.

The bed that Rocket seemed to have already claimed was on the right side of the room, along with a modern looking chest of drawers, a desk, and a widescreen TV. My bed was on the left side, along with another chest of drawers, an extremely comfy looking zebra print sofa accompanied by a huge potted plant giving the room a very homely and cosy feel to it. In the centre, between the two beds, was the biggest stereo I had ever seen outside of a professional DJ booth, and I also noticed that the TV was already equipped with various games consoles and a DVD player. The perfect cure for boredom. After getting over the initial shock of how amazing the bedroom was, I wandered out of the huge glass doors out onto the balcony and gazed out across the ocean. As the sun was just setting, the sky was a gorgeous deep pink colour blended with a burnt orange colour farther up, and these colours were being reflected in the glistening water. It was a very peaceful view - and one that I could most definitely get used to. Never at my old home would I be able to experience this level of tranquillity, and the best part was, it was literally just outside my bedroom.

-3 Years Previously-

“Hero! Hurry up already!” Dad called from downstairs.

“Almost ready, Dad!” I replied.

I was in my bedroom with Gracie, getting ready for my family’s annual trip to the beach. We had been doing this every summer for as long as I could remember, and it had become a family tradition. I had always been allowed to bring Gracie with me. This year, Rocket had been told that he could bring a friend if he wanted to; but evidently, he didn’t. As far as I was aware, Rocket didn’t actually have any friends. Every time I saw him at school, he was by himself. But I didn’t really care, he was an asshole anyway. I finished up putting on my clothes over my bathing suit, whilst Gracie packed some towels into a bag in case we wanted to go swimming in the sea.

“The weather Is gorgeous today” Gracie said happily “It’s gonna be awesome”

“Better than last year?” I asked, grinning slightly. Last year, we had an ultimate splash war in the sea and I won, we almost completely buried my Dad in sand up to his neck, we brought a stereo with us and played music full blast along the almost empty beach, we sunbathed for hours whilst gossiping and sharing secrets, we drew pictures in the sand whilst the other person tried to guess what the picture was, we ate our own weight in ice-cream, we raced Trevor up and down the beach on foot and then raced him through the sea on surfboards (he won both times), my Mom fell into a hole in the sand which made us laugh for ages afterwards, and the sunset in the evening had been one of the most stunning things I had ever seen. I was hoping to make this year even better.
