Just something short and sweet for my friend Crystal. (@smilingowls)

My fingertips gently ran across the blinds pulling them down ever so slightly, just enough to see outside. It somehow seemed darker out and I could only contribute that to the storm over head. I watched outside a moment, thankful to have a roof over my head on a night like this. The rain was coming down in sheets, trees out front were bending in the tremendous wind and lightning lit up the sky nearly every two or three seconds followed my a near deafening roar if thunder. I always did enjoy watching a storm roll through but this type of weather seemed more like a hurricane than the average thunderstorm.

"Has it lightened up any?" I peeled my gaze away from the window long enough to turn around to Mark. He had two cups in hand, gently sipping on one and made an advance towards me, gesturing the other forward. "If anything it's gotten worse. It's gonna be damn near impossible to get an uber out in this." I took the cup in hand and brought my focus back to the window, watching the few cars that dared to drive in this weather pass by, causing the nearly flooded road to splash up it's water. All I managed to do was shake my head and shake my head, dreading having to go out in this. Even if I did manage to get an uber or any taxi really, it'd be a dangerous trip home.

"You know maybe it's just best you stay the night. I mean it's already late and who knows how much longer this is going to last." I brought the mug to my lips, slightly sipping the hot chocolate inside, admiring it's warmth and sweetness while contemplating the offer. Truth was, Mark and I hadn't been together very long and I was kind of nervous to stay over night. He may expect things. Things other girls and previous relationships may have just handed to him but things I didn't feel were appropriate for this point in our relationship.

"I know but, what about Jackson?" I slightly grinned at the thought of my goofball Jack Russell although I was just using him as an excuse. Still, the poor thing was home alone. I would have brought him for a play date with Chica but since her surgery, she wouldn't quite be up to Jackson's speed so I left him at home for the day. "I know you, you left him plenty of food and water. Worst case scenario, he may leave you a welcome home gift you'll have to clean tomorrow but, I promise he'll be fine for one night."

The offer was tempting but, that still didn't comfort me in any sort of way. Mark and I had barely gotten past second base. I just felt it too soon in the relationship to let him hit a home run, not that I wouldn't eventually want to. "With Matt and Ryan gone back to home for a visit I could use the company." I could admit the house seemed more quite since Matt and Ryan were away and I also knew that Mark couldn't stand the silence. Being alone in a big house like this would on nights like tonight would be enough to give anyone the creeps.

"Come on, you know you wanna," Mark sang into my ear as he hugged me from behind, and rested his chin onto my shoulder. It wasn't like I was sexually anorexic and Mark was well aware of that but still, spending the night would give plenty of opportunity for something to happen and truth was, I don't know if I'd stop it. I just don't want to give in too soon. I set my my on the windowsill and finally let go of the blind, turning myself around to Mark who had hope written in his eyes.

"I guess I don't have much of a cho.." My sentence was short by a booming clap of thunder followed by visibility fading to black thanks to the storm cutting the power. "Well, you're definitely not going home now," Mark announced and let me go. The house had gone so dark I couldn't see two feet in front of me, and the only sort of light was from the crashing lightning every few seconds revealing, I was now alone in his living room which made me all the more uneasy.

"Mark," I called out into the black abyss, sticking my hands out in front of me while taking small hesitant steps. I hadn't been here enough to really get a sense of house layout, and the last thing I wanted to do was break something by bumping into. "Gimme a sec babe, I'm in the kitchen." I managed to lead myself to a wall and scooted across it until I found a corner in which I could see a small dim light coming from another room. I had at least been here enough to know it was the kitchen, so I stayed on this wall in hopes Mark would soon emerge.
