Umbrella

It reminded him of that rain when he was six. An old man he cared about died because of it.

That's why Uchiha Sasuke hated the rain.

He hated getting drenched, too.

He hated the stupid raindrops pattering at his eyelids.

It was one of those times again when he forgets taking his umbrella with him. Mainly because of an idiotic blond barging over and over in his house in what feels like forever. It was disturbing. He swore every day that someday he'll gonna stab him. Now Sasuke gets to suffer that dreaded curse of a situation.

"Damn..."

The Uchiha noticed the rain getting stronger as he rushed to find shelter. He didn't want to catch a cold again.

Luckily, he found a closed shop. He went there and stood, waiting impatiently for the downpour to subside – plus giving endless curses to Uzumaki Naruto.

Unknowingly, someone slowly came near him whilst busy at his own world. Noticing, he glanced at his side only to see a visibly anxious Hyuuga Hinata.

Odd. She only approached him when they had work together with projects.

Sasuke stared at her for a moment.

He had known the Hyuuga for years, but only as a peer. She was one of Naruto's circles of friends, he noticed. He had come to a grudging respect of her skills and knowing the fact that she wouldn't be a nuisance.

She was kind and humble regardless of the richness of her family – that was what the others say.

Maybe.

"What do you want?"

Hinata smiled timidly at him and nervously offered the purple umbrella she was using a while ago.

"I-It's raining and I... y-you can use this on your way."

Sasuke eyed Hinata warily, not sure of the girl's motives. Why would she let herself get soaked in the rain just to give him her parasol?

"What do you want..." he glowered at her. "Hyuga?"

"Nothing!" she quickly denied and then looked down with embarrassment. "N-N-Nothing o-of sorts." Her voice was barely audible, "I'm sorry b-but I – Please take it."

Sasuke can't help but feel annoyed at her – literally everything about her...although he can't deny the tiniest relief that washed over him. And he hated it. Her stubbornness and words was exasperating yet undeniably sincere.

Just what is it with the Hyuuga? Why bother anyway? For just a measly umbrella and a voice that filled him with whatever that was, he felt confusion flood over him. Did she happen to be converted by those annoying fan clubs?

"I don't need it."

He wanted her to be scared like she always does. He expected her to leave. He expected her to stop because everything didn't make sense.

But he didn't expect her to hold his hand and softly place the umbrella at his palm.

He didn't pull his hand away. It just stayed there. Heck, he should've had avoid it earlier yet he was just shocked to move away. Yes, shocked.

Hinata let go before he could. She flashed him an apologetic smile and said, "G-Gomen. But please use it." Then she dashed off using her bag as a cover in replace.

A vein popped on Sasuke's temple. He just wanted to shout at her. He didn't need her umbrella...But all he did was staring at his hand.

He finally looked at the purple thing. Sasuke felt like throwing it away. But, the sudden approach, her out-of-character-character and the genuineness...

Sasuke then decided not to waste the effort. He needed it anyway.

"Fine."

***********

Hinata smiled warmly from her apartment's window as she watched Sasuke use her parasol. It wasn't her utmost intention, atleast at first, to give it to the raven haired Uchiha. They weren't close and all,  but after she heard Naruto talking about Sasuke getting colds and that he was sorry - she somehow wanted to repay for Naruto's mistake.

But along the way, her reasons for giving Sasuke her umbrella became blurry. It was not for Naruto anymore. She became honestly worried about his well-being, since she noticed that the Uchiha easily caught a cold whenever there's a passing rain.

On her way, she was utterly nervous,   practicing her lines until she met him hiding from the cold rain.

Step by step, she can feel goosebumps crawl beneath her skin.  And it wasn't because of the cold.

Facing Sasuke was truly terrifying, especially when she can see the annoyance visibly etched in his face. She can only assume that he wanted her gone as soon as possible.

But Hinata was used to terrifying people like Sasuke,  her family that is. She wouldn't give in. Her apartment is just a few blocks away,  and she loved getting soaked in the rain anyways.

But was it wrong to force Sasuke to take her umbrella? No, not all.  Besides, from the window,  Hinata can see the satisfied expression on his face.
