Hey! OK! I recently found out people apparently don't like author's notes, but please read mine. Unless they sound completely pointless like "Enjoy" but yeeeah... Anyways, I present to you the starting point of my newest addition to my works, "Brightened!" I'm sorry if not all the info on here isn't accurate, but yeeeah.... I'm not a genius like Josh (<--- one of the main characters...) is, so haha, enjoy... :P
Bridget’s POV
It’s been dark for a long time… I haven’t seen the sun since I was six years old. I faintly remember the feeling of going outside and soaking up the sun. I remember being tan, not pale… I know everyone doesn’t mind the sun’s gone anymore but… I miss it so much…
“Ahem! What’s the answer, Miss Chalester?” Mr. Burns asked, clearing his throat.
“Oh, uh… Sorry, Mr. Burns…” I replied.
I fumbled with my papers and stood up. I walked towards the black board but then forgot my answer. I ran back to my desk and looked over my answers again as I heard snickers crawl behind me. I shuffled to the front of the room again, my face flushed with embarrassment. I kept my head down, answered the problems, and sat down again. I heard Mr. Burns say, “Hmmm…” and then I knew I got it wrong…
“I’m afraid that’s incorrect, Bridget… Marco would you like to correct this?” he asked.
Amber looked out the window and saw the darkened sky, the streets and stores brightened with white street lights. During the day, it would lighten but at night, the lights have to be turned down making the world seem like an endless path overtaken by shadows.
RING!!!
The bell shook my thoughts. I stacked my books, and rushed through the door.
“Hey! Bridget!” I heard a familiar voice say behind me. I smiled and turned around.
“Hello genius.” I said.
“Look, I’m not a genius. I’m just smarter than you.” Josh said, jokingly. I gave him a little friend-shove and laughed.
“That’s why you need to tutor me instead of mess around when I’m studying!” I said, turning to get to my locker.
He scoffed. His real name is Joshua, but eh… It didn’t work out for him… He’s pretty tall, has dark brown hair, not wavy, but it isn’t straight either. DEFINETELY NOT LONG HAIR. He tried it once, and I forced him to cut it short again. He looked hideous. We’ve been best friends for forever. I wish I was as smart as him, but whenever he helps me with my studies, he just messes around. He’s so annoying… I smiled.
“What?” Josh asked.
“Nothing… I’m just happy.” I answered. I back-tracked a little bit and changed my mind. “Actually, math was embarrassing. Ish… I mean… I didn’t think it was embarrassing until I heard people snickering behind me…” I said, frowning. I turned and put in my combination.
“Huh. Rough days are never good. Like that one time one of my ‘experiments’ went wrong and exploded in my face…” Josh said, creasing his eyebrows.
“Psh… Way to sound like a geek, you maniac.” I laughed, wedging my books in my locker as best I could.
“Uh, huh, gotta go. Next class is starting. See you later, Bridget.” He said, patting my back, and running back to his locker for his books… I sighed.
“How could his grades be so fanatical and yet he’s still a slacker…” I wondered, smiling as I watched him run down the hall and turn left. I quickly gathered the books and notepads I needed for history, and found myself running to class just like I saw Josh had. I looked through the door window and saw the room still bustling with people rushing to their seats. I quietly entered and took my seat.
