"James! Give it back! No don't you dare! James!" I yelled, at the blond boy, that was about to throw my beloved IPod out of the window. Grr him.

He fell back off of the window seat laughing. I snatched my ipod from him, and flopped on my bed. "Screw you." I muttered loud enough for him to hear.

"Love you too Dyl." He sang in am annoying sing-song voice. "I should get a llama." I announced randomly. He chuckled. "Yes, yes you should. But enough crazy talk. I smell your mommy cooking brownies." He announced hopping up. He leaned over me and reached his hand out. I laughed and grabbed his hand, he lifted me up and we began to walk downstairs.

"Mom, I smell brownies." I said stating the obvious sitting down at the island next James. She smiled at us. "Yeah, I thought I'd make them before heading off to Russia to start my expedition on permafrost or whatever it is I'm doing this time."

"Way to be organized, Mel." James laughed. I raised an eyebrow at my unorganized mother. "You do remember permafrost is soil thats been frozen solid?" I asked questioning my mother's  career choice.

"Oh. Well, then I have no idea." She replied. I snorted. "And Youe the scientist." I mutteredsarcastically My mom was a biologist that was always traveling to places. It was cool, but most times I was left with my unobservant dad. He seriously doesn't know what teenagers do these days that or he doesn't care. Or maybe it's because he thinks am i responsible young adult...Yeah I'mgoing with number two.

"Fork over the brownies Mel." James ordered. My mom laughed as she set the plate of brownies on the island.  I had known James since the fourth grade when he had decided to pretty much stalk me until I became his friend. We were now seniors, meaning I had known him for about eight and a half years. He practically lived at our house, his house he claimed was boring and my unobservant dad and 'out there' mom were very entertaining.

"Did you do your homework before you came over here to hold my Ipod hostage?" I asked teasingly. He looked at me as if I had grown a second head, and with my mom's cooking I may just have. The only thing she could  actually make was brownies. And my dad unlike in most cliches movies and books couldn't cook worth anything either, and me, well last time I tried to cook...Our House almost burnt down. So food wise we were screwed unless we ordered out.

"No. You've known me for how many years and still ask me that question?"

I laughed. " Good point." "Great point." He added.

"So is your mom still on that health kick?" I asked, munching on my brownie.

He groaned. "Sadly yes. And Dad is just going along with it claiming it's good for us. But Josh and I both know that it's because he's afraid to disagree with Mom." I nodded understanding. James' mom was not the best person to contradict. I remember the last time I did. She was going on about how I need a hair cut and I shook my head no and then tried to explain to her that I didn't want tobecause I like it long. Let's just say when I left... I learned not to contradict her. Ever.

I laughed at the memory and grabbed my brownie and walked into the living room him following. My dad was sitting on the couch with a magazine in hand, trying to read it upside down.

  James looked at me laughing.

"Dad, you do realize that ,magazine is upside down don't you?" He looked up.

"Oh what yes, Just trying to see how the others read." He said, continuing to read it upside down.

   "What others?" I asked confused.

"The Chinese of course." I exchanged a look with James, he was trying to hold back laughter.

"Um... Sure Dad. Right.  Well can James and I borrow the truck?" I asked.

"Yes. Keys on the table. There a bag in the trunk, don't open it whatever you do." He instructed going back to the upside down magazine.

   ***

I grabbed the keys from the table and walked outside to my dads truck. He broke out into laughter  once we got outside. I couldn't help giggling a bit too.

"And this is why I love you house." He exclaimed. I laughed and got into the truck.

"what do you think is in the bag?" He asked. I shook my head. "Knowing my dad, I don't even want to know."

"So were meeting everyone at the mall right?" I asked.

"Nope change of plans. Jesus said everyones going to The Woods."

"So now you tell me." I mutter. He just grins. The Woods was just a term we used for the lake we went to, it was surrounded by woods so I guess it fits.

:I'm not getting in the water." I stated started in the car and backing out of the driveway.

"And why ever not Miss. Lane?" He asked smirking. I scowled at him. "Because a certain blondtried to drown me last time." He chuckled.

"Guilty as charged." "So who's all gonna be there?"

"Jimmy, Denise, Megan, Josh, Blake. Austin, Jenna, Matt and I think Armaan." I laughed thinking about all the crazy things Armaan could do at the woods.

"I love that tiny asian." James nodded laughing in agreement.

 ****

I pulled up in front of the lake,. James and I hopped out.

"Hey over here!" Matt called out from on the dock. He, Jenna, Austin, Blake, and Denise were all out on the dock, in their swim attire, about the jump in. Josh was standing next to the grill, Armaan was standing on top of the picnic table doing some sort of rain dance and Megan was sitting on a towel watching Armaan laughing.

James and I headed towards them. I watched as Blake pushed Jenna in, she screamed as she fell. When she resurfaced she grabbed his leg and pulled him in. Denise pushed Matt in but failed an fell in her self. Austin laughed and front flipped in lie a showoff. When we reached Armaan,Megan and Josh, Armaan was still doing his rain dance.

"Hey, Dude did you grab my swin trunks?" James asked his older brother by one year. Josh nodded. "In the trunk."  James nodded and ran off to Josh's car.

I looked up at Armaan. "What the hell is he doing?" I asked no one in particular.

"Apparently he's trying to ward off rain." Megan answered. I laughed looking once more at the tinyAsian dancing on the table.
