I woke to a sudden shout. Instincts kicking in, I woke and blindly tackled the thing, or should I say person, to the ground. Hearing laughter, I opened my blue and red eyes. I met my older brother's electric blue eyes. They seemed playful and full of life. "Happy birthday, little brother!" He laughed. I sighed and got off.
"Glitch, you idiot...." I yawned, stretching out. "You know I don't sleep well... Why'd you wake me?" He rolled his eyes and sat up, pointing at the clock. "It's one forty-eight in the afternoon." I glanced over, sighing. Standing, I held a hand out to help him up. He grinned and took it. "Aren't you too old to wake people up like that?" I asked, annoyed.
He only shrugged, then grabbed me by the hand and ran. I yelped, slipping a bit as I tried running with him. He only laughed and ran, dragging a sleepy me behind him. "Slow down, Glitch!" I groaned, pulling my wrist from his grip. He stopped and looked at me, grinning. I looked at his black hair pulled back in a ponytail, hiding his neon green ears and his electric blue eyes sticking out.
He was rather odd compared to Eclipse- and they were twins. I sighed and fixed my short greyish-cadet blue hair. It was down to my shoulders and fit into a small ponytail. I let my cat ears peek out and sighed, adjusting my shirt. I looked up, then around. "If you're here, where's Eclipse?" I asked, immediately alert. "Right here!" I was suddenly tackled by my other older brother.
I coughed, the air getting knocked out of me. I wheezed a bit, dizzy now. Eclipse laughed and ruffled my hair. I felt a start pain up my lower back, and it snapped me back to reality. "You're on my tail!" I cried out. I heard him say, "Oops," then climb off of me. I got up, groaning.
"You guys are idiots..." I mumbled, popping my back a bit. I looked back at my other brother, Eclipse. He laughed, golden eyes shining happily, black hair and black ears. His tail had a golden tip, like Glitch's had a black tip. "You guys are so weird." I mumbled, then felt Eclipse and Glitch both grab my wrists. "Well, so are you, Nova." Eclipse said.
I felt someone blindfold me from behind. "Woah!" I said, trying to get them off. "Calm down, Nova. It's just me." I heard Shadow's voice and sighed. "It's just my birthday- why are you guys acting so weird?" I asked. Glitch and Eclipse snickered. "Because we're about to kill you." Suddenly, I felt a cloth cover my mouth and nose.
I suddenly woke. I sat up quickly in a cold sweat, panting and gripping my covers. I looked around quickly, alert for something that wasn't even there. I sighed when I saw Glitch across the room, as always for the past thirteen years of my life. I got up, and climbed out of my bed. I sighed, then walked across to the door that lead to the hall.
I opened it, and the hall light entered the room, and I heard Glitch groan. I walked through, shutting the door behind me as not to disturb my brother any more than I already have. I glanced at my watch, seeing the time. It was three forty-seven in the morning. Close to the same time I have been waking in the past months. I sighed and walked down the hall, walking past the sign with the symbol of a cup, bowl, fork, spoon, and knife on it.
After a bit of walking down the hall, I pressed a button on the left side of the entrance and the door slid open. The kitchen lights slowly turned on as I entered. I sighed and walked to the cupboards, opening the one with the cup symbol on it, pulling out a glass cup. I sighed and walked over to the sink next, turning on the water and filling my cup. I turned off the water with one hand, using the other to sip my cup.
I sipped my water, sighing and just trying to clear my mind. Another nightmare in the past year about my family turning against me. Shadow is like an adopted sister, and Glitch and Eclipse are my older twin brothers. I looked at the time again. Four eleven A.M. The others would enter in a few minutes. As always, I appear early on 'purpose'. They don't know about my nightmares.
We shouldn't tell them anyways, Nova. They're too stupid to understand us. "Oi, shut it." I said. Why? He asked me. I rolled my eyes. "You and I both know why, Silver. Don't screw anything up today." I said, sipping my water again. They didn't exactly know about Silver, either. My 'other half', as he claims to be. I sighed as I heard his echoing laughter in my head.
"Annoying as always." I mumbled, sipping my water again. After a few minutes, seven more to be exact, Sparrow walked in. He glanced at me, seeing me leaned back against the wall, my red bandana loosely around my neck as always, my cadet blue shirt fixed, and my tannish white pants. I left off my shoes, wearing my white socks.
"Early again, Nova?" He questioned. I shrugged a bit, sipping my water again. He sighed and walked over. "Well, I suppose you could help me with breakfast again." He said. I shrugged as well, and drank up the rest of my water before walking over. Ya know, Novella, we should tell Sparrow about the nightmares. I need sleep too, not just you.
I rolled my eyes, then noticed Sparrow had been talking. "Eh?" I questioned, and he looked at me. "Not paying attention, Nova?" He asked. I hesitated, then it was suddenly dark. I heard Silver say, "No, I wasn't. Sparrow, sir, I haven't been sleeping well the past months. I have a lot of nightmares. It's why I'm here early every morning and don't talk as often anymore." I'm sure I felt a part of me panic, and I mean me, not Silver. As soon as Silver had taken my spot, he gave it back.
I saw Sparrow looking at me with an I knew it look. I sighed and just looked down. He knew I had been lying? "Nova, why didn't you tell me?" He asked. "I knew something was off around a few months ago." He said. I just froze. I don't know what it was, but I felt myself freeze. He had his hand on my shoulder. "You know, Nova, you can trust me. We've been together for thirteen years, after all."
That's what made me freeze. The words trust and me made me freeze. I felt my vision blur a bit with tears. I had stopped eating with the others, stopped talking with anyone, stopped being open, half a year ago. It started six months ago. I looked away quickly. "... I don't think I'll be in training today. I'm feeling sick." I moved his hand off my shoulder, turning away and walking. I stopped, then put the cup I had on the counter.
I resumed walking after that. "Nova, wait." He stopped me. "You said something about nightmares?" He asked. I sighed, then pulled my bandana up and around my nose and mouth, like Eclipse. "Yeah..." I said, hiding my emotions. He turned me to face him. "Well.... Tell me what they are and I can help." He said, then pulled out a chair for me to sit in. It was a habit to sit when he did that, and that's exactly what I did. I sat down.
Obedient much? Silver snickered. I was already getting a headache from him and what was going on. Sparrow sighed, and made me look at him. "Nova, we're family.... Tell me what's wrong." I felt something kind of snap when he said that. "... The fact you said we're family. I'm a cat, you're a squirrel. The fact that you said I can trust you when I can't." It just came out. I don't know why I said it, but it just came out.
     He....
