It was much easier to sleep that night with Alexander's arms wrapped around my waist. He helped me when I had morning sickness which was often, when I was in pain, and helping me walk up and down the stairs. For the next couple of months, I keeped growing and growing by the days until my stomach was so huge I thought that I might pop.
The day before it was supposed to be my ninth mark, I was cleaning Alexander's bookshelf. I stopped in mid cleaning and it felt like I just pissed all over the wooden floor boards. Then my stomach got a really painful cramping feeling, and I knew I was time. I started walking to Alexander's office, but half way their I just collapsed on my knees.
"Alexander!" I screamed his name waiting to hear a response. When I didn't hear anything, I tried again.
"Alexander!" I screamed even louder, doubling over.
Alexander came running out of his office. When he saw me, his face went pale and he ran towards me with panic in his eyes. He grabbed my shoulders and helped me up, walking me towards the nearest seat.
"I'll be right back, Eliza. Ok, just sit down and I'll be back before anything. Ok, sweetheart." He seemed calm on the out side, but I beat on the inside he is freaking out. He came back in no time like he said with a doctor. The next couple of long hours of labor, and finally passed that, were spent in intense, fiery, and an indescribable amount of pain. I looked around for Alexander, but didn't see him. No doubt he is probably in his office rocking him self back and forth. Screaming didn't help on bit, but that's all I was doing.
After on final push of pressure, it was all over. The pain was still unbearable, but what truly made it go away was getting to see my baby, hold him, see him open his eyes for the first time, and singing a lullaby to him. I didn't even notice Alexander walk in until he put his hand on mine and kissed my already wet hair.
"Were a family." Alexander said hugging me and our new son, Phillip. I looked up at Alexander and gave him a smile. My eye lids were a little heavy from exhaustion. I looked at Phillip and he resembled his father so much with the same glossy eyes, bridged nose, and tan skin.
"A family." I whispered before I finally fall asleep.
That night, the night I gave birth to Phillip, he cried all night. Or at least that's what Alexander told me, for I was blissfully unconscious throughout the whole night. My body had exhausted itself, so I needed the sleep. But the next night when Phillips cries broke through my sleep, Alexander volunteered to shush and calm him down every time. But I got up when Phillip needed to be feed, I got used to breast feeding rather quickly. It didn't hurt like I thought it would but my breast did hurt when I didn't.
I toke care of Phillip, while Alexander stayed home and worked in his office. Even though it hurt me to see him stay home, I knew it would hurt him more to leave me at home all day to take care of Phillip by myself. But I didn't mind when Alexander toke Phillip into his office while I take a breather of relaxation. I would stand by the door and watch Alex tell Phillip how to write a good letter, poem, and pamphlet.
Sometimes I would hear him curse the name of the people he dislikes, like Charles Lee. I disapproved of him saying it in front of Phillip, but Phillip being just a bae, just giggled and clapped his hands, knowing that I would give Alexander a very stern talking to about using such language in front of him. Since he learned I very much disliked such language at most times.
I was praticly raising my own husband, along with his child. Such help.
Soon me and Alexander started teaching Phillip how to say our names, Mama and Papa. But soon, we turned it into a game to see who can get Phillip to say who's name first. It ended up Alexander barely having time to say his name to Phillip due to work, and me whispering it to Phillip while he sleeped. In the end, I did, end up winning.
Time flew by as Phillip grew and was soon learning how to crawl, and at some points, attempting to sit. He would at sometimes get on his stomach and lift with his back feet, but would fall back on his side or back. And would always end up the same, him crying for me and me helping him stop crying. But a little while later, for the first time, I saw him sit up and clap his chubby little hands at me and Alexander.
Alexander soon went back to work at his office downtown when I could care for Philip by my self during the day. And he began to move up more and more, which sometimes caused him to work late at night. But I didn't mind, for I would always wake up again with Alexander's arms around my waist. And in no time, I found out that I could buy more stuff than just the necessary stuff. It made me happy that he could provide for his family, and even more.
After a few months of taking care of Phillip, I finally had time to see Peggy and Lafayette with their own son. He was just a month older than Phillip, so I knew that there wouldn't be to much wailing. When we invited them over, I first thing I saw was a little baby boy with wild, curly, brown hair on his head and beautiful chocolate eyes. I praticly squealed at how adorable he was, and so did Peggy when she saw Phillip crawling around the floor.
"Oh Lafayette, he looks so much like you! He's so adorable." I said inviting them in while giving each of them a good hug.
"He does, doesn't he." Said Lafayette while standing tall and making a silly pose. Peggy and me laughed at this.
"Don't let his looks deceive you, he may look cute, but he sure knows how to wail at the most important times." Said Peggy, while putting little George Marquis De Lafayette down and letting him crawl on the floor.
"Which one, Lafayette or George." Lafayette just looked at me and me and Peggy started laughing like crazy at my joke.
I got Alexander and Phillip as we made our way to the kitchen with Peggy, Lafayette, and George to eat dinner. After, we all sat at the couch and talked while the boys sat by the carpet in eyes sight, in case something happened. It was innocent enough, and nothing happened thank goodness.
I learned from Peggy that Angelica already had her wedding and is going to move next year, for the ship needs repairs to set sail. I was relived that her and John didn't go yet, for I haven't said goodbye yet. And they still need to meet their nephew.
Soon after, their visit we started teaching Phillip animal and different sound noises and much bigger words than our names. He got the hang of the animal sounds pretty quickly, but every so often be would make the noises sound distorted. It made me giggle and Alexander laugh, while Phillip would shriek with excitement while clapping his hands on the wood tile floor.
A few days later I saw Phillip walk I to the kitchen but slightly stumbling for the first time. I shrieked with so much excitement and anything he did wrong or do, I failed to acknowledged.
Angelica came not a day later to see how we were doing, but I knew she came to see Phillip. When Alexander came out with Phillip, she praticly ran over to them and said Phillip looked too much like his father. I smiled at her remark, for his know wild and long curls were exactly the color of Alexander's hair.
She completed that Phillip was going to be a tremendous writer, just like his father. I knew it was most likely for Alexander would steal Phillip away sometimes while I wasn't looking, and read to him in his office, Titus Andronicus. This went on for about a year until Angelica had to move with John to London, it was a tearful accession, but we all manage since we would still write to each other.
About a year later, Phillip was learning how to speak in full sentences, no matter how choppy or random nonsense they might be. Most times he would recite play lines for me, I would always never really understand the loud nonsense he would spew out, but it made my heart swell every time.
One day while me and Alex where in our room cleaning our bed sheets, Phillip came running into our room holding an old book of mine, but upside down. I giggled as he wobbled over to Alexander and me still holding the book high.
"Mommy, daddy. I can wead." He said rather loudly, Alexander picked him up and kissed his cheek, causing Phillip to giggle.
"Can you now, will you read for daddy and me." He nodded and just started spewing nonsense at us and when he flipped a page he stood up on the bed and bowed. Me and Alexander clapped at his attempt.
"That was beautiful, baby." He smiled and ran into my arms, still holding the book in his hands. I gave him a kiss on the cheek and told him to give daddy a kiss goodnight. He obeyed which made me and Alexander smile. Life was perfect, and at times this, I knew I was at home with the family I always dreamed of.
