RMS Britannic - The forgotten sister of titanic?
Nearly 92 years have elapsed since captain Charles Bartlett, standing in his pyjamas on the bridge of the biggest vessel in the world the HMHS Britannic , gave the call to abandon ship.
It was 8:35 am on november 21, 1916 the four - funnel ocean liner, built to be even larger and safer than the "unsinkable" titanic listing fast. Britannic was launced just before the start of the first world war and was laid up at the her builders on belfast for many months before being put to use as a hospital ship in 1915. She was shaken by any explosion, caused by an underwater mine, in the kea channel off the greek island of kea on the morning of 21 november 1916. And sank 55 minutes later, killing 30 people.
