I woke up hyperventilating I heard as someone rushed to my side, but my focus was on controlling my breathing.

"Lia!" a voice called out but it sounded so far away so distant. It faded away and I watched as the black spots that danced in my vision grew and I let the darkness consume me.

I sat under the heater in Hayden's office wrapped up in a blanket shivering a cup of milk in my shaking hands. I found myself slowly accepting what happened as Hayden explains what happened yesterday. I thought- no I hoped it was all a bad dream. I didn't want to kill anyone but I had no choice. I couldn't let him continue to hurt people and I can't erase what was already done. Hayden understood why I did it but he couldn't help me, no one can. I was lost too far gone but now, now I felt like a weight was lifted off and another lay heavier on my shoulders. I was a monster.

"What am I going to do with you Lee?" Hayden drags his hand over his face sighing heavily. I tilt my head to the side and take in his brown eyes and dirty blond hair. He had a six o' clock shadow and the tell tale signs of dark circles around his eyes showing that he hadn't had a good night's sleep in about a week. His hair was in need of a cut as the tips fell past his eye brows. The jubilant youthful man was nowhere to be found in the exhausted man before me. His usually empty bin was filled with empty paper cups. From his unkempt and desolate appearance I could tell that he and his wife were fighting again.

"I'm going to have to take this to court you know? But you have to tell me what happened Lee."

"There is nothing to tell Hayden," I sighed.

"Lee, your making this harder than it is. If he hurt you could get off on self defense." he was tired and I didn't think I could bear to make him suffer any more that he already was. I didn't have it in me to make a pointless argument. I didn't even think I had it in me to be sarcastic. I looked at the face of the man who became my second father figure since I was a kid and saw how much I was hurting him by not telling him what happened, by not letting him do what he did best and take care of me.

"As long as I get one phone call first and I'll tell you everything," he sighed but gave in after some time. He rose out of the chair and headed for his door.

"Three minutes only," he throws over his shoulder before leaving his office closing the door behind him.

"Lauren?" I say when someone answers the phone.

"How does the defendant plead?"

"Guilty your honor," I answer.

"No!" Hayden along with my brothers shot up out of their seats protesting loudly, forget that it was disrespecting the judge, but they didn't care.

"Do we have a problem here?" the judge asks, his voice level.

"Yes your honor, if i may approach," Hayden rattles on not waiting to be permitted nor denied, "This defendant is not guilty. I suggest that she be put on probation for the crime but she only did it as an act of self defense." he was getting upset as he pleaded with the Judge.

"Would you like to rescind your plea, Miss Payne." the judge leveled me with her gaze.

"No your honour," i say avoiding Hayden's pleading gaze and the growls of disapproval coming from my brothers. My words made him stagger as if it was a physical blow and he looked away fro me before storming out from the room.

It didn't matter to him that he was a police official and he could be suspended for his behavior in the court room, because in that moment he was more of an upset father. But we weren't in a normal court room and we weren't governed by human laws.
