The Kiss

Still in the car, Gansey dragged a weary hand over his face as the strange scent of blue clung to him and he could still feel her fingers in his hair. He gave her a few more minutes before he climbed out himself, his legs brushing at the tall grasses. His heart constricted for a moment when he imagined bees hidden on the ground, wasps crawling up his legs and stinging him. He froze, listening for the tell-tale buzz, but he heard nothing.

Except for Blue crying.

He hurried around the side of the Camaro, ignoring the hammering in his heart as he found her. She was sitting on the ground, her face in her hands and his small shoulders shaking. He fell to his knees beside her, wrapping his arms around her small quaking form.

"Blue? What's wrong, Blue?"

"I don't want to do this anymore," she said pitifully around her upraised hands.

"You don't want to do what anymore?"

"This. Pretending."

"I don't want to pretend anymore either, Blue." He nudged her face out of her hands, tilting it to face him as he settled down in front of her, hands around her wrists to keep her hands from going back up. Her face was blotchy, her eyes red. But she looked just as beautiful as ever. He dropped her hands gentle, and cupped her cheeks. His mint smelling thumbs brushed over her damp cheek bones as they both leaned closer to each other. His fingers wound through her short, spunky hair, pulling her closer. With one last looking at her waiting lips, he kissed her.

She wound her arms around his neck, holding him close as he fingers grabbed the ripped t-shirt at the small of her back. He kept pressing soft, gentle kisses on her mouth, her cheeks. Everywhere he could reach without letting go of her. His head spun with the sensation of Blue in his arms, under his lips. He hugged her tight as he pressed more urgent kisses in her lips. After what seemed like forever, she pulled away, leaning back against the car and not meeting his eyes. He brushed his fingers across his lips, not believing. Blue wrapped her arms around herself, shaking.

"Blue?"

"That was a mistake," Blue said, eyes downcast and lips pinched together to hide their quiver.

"I have to disagree with you," Gansey murmured before tilting her face back up to his with a chilled finger. He leaned forward, his lips brushing hers once, twice, three times before she reacted. She leaned into him, pulling him into her as they kissed harsher than before. Gansey shifted to his knees before her, and wrapped his arms around her. Without breaking their contact, he lifted her up and set her down on the trunk of the Camaro, putting them better at level. He hugged her tight as she deepened the kiss, leaning back to half hold his weight on hers as she was flat on the car. Both of their eyes were closed as they kissed, leaving the stars to light up the world around them as they lost themselves in each other's arms.

They kept their hands clasped together as they drove back into Henrietta.

"Are you okay?" He asked quietly over the roaring wind.

"Are you okay?" She retorted, peering at him with concern straight on her face.

"I feel fine. I feel a whole lot better than fine, frankly."

"Me too." They smiled at each other. Big wide, goofy smiles that led to small fits of nervous laughter. "I don't want to go home, yet."

"You could come to Monmouth for a little bit."

"I think I will."

"I'm glad." They drove in silence, stealing glances at each other as they sped through the sleeping streets. In the empty lot before Monmouth, they stared at each for some time before kissing again. This one was slow and sweet and special. Gansey pulled Blue along behind him as he climbed the stairs of the factory, pushing the door open in haste to lock Blue up in his own castle. To see him in his home. A natural sight. Noah was gone. His Henrietta model was looking better than it had when he left. Ronan still wasn't back, and Gansey was glad. He just wanted it to be him and Blue. She roamed around the open space, peering at everything with a new light. He stood still, watching her with awe.

She came back to him and wrapped her arms around him, resting her cheek on his fast moving chest. "Are you sure you're okay?"

"I'm better than I've ever been." He tilted her head up again, and caught her lips with his.
