Everyone has plans for months or weeks or days, but they never know what could happen tomorrow. It's unexpected. Maria is your typical girl with an ordinary life. She has a little sister named Teresa which is only five years old, her mom named Martina, and her dad named Anthony. Her dad was from Monterey, Mexico and her mom was from Guanajuato.
Everything started like usual. Alarm beeping, the struggles of waking up, and the arguments.
"Can you hurry up?! How long does a little five year old need?!" Maria yelled while banging the door.
"In-a-second! And linger than you think!" Teresa yelled back while applying some of Teresa's lip gloss. Soon enough, the bathroom door swung open.
"There! Are you happy now? You can have the bathroom all to yourself!" Teresa exclaimed as Maria rolled her eyes.
"Um...is that my lip gloss?" Maria said grinning.
"No." Teresa said nervously.
"I see... Who are you trying to impress?"
"No one okay! It's none of your beeswax!" Teresa sassed and walked away as if nothing had happened. Maria just entered the restroom.
"Maria!" Her mom yelled. Maria was doing her eyeliner and her mother's yell scared her. That caused her to mess up.
"What?" Maria responded as she erased the mess she has created.
"Laqueas la puerta antes que te vallas!/ Lock the door before you go!"
"Okay madre! Okay mother!" Maria yelled. With that she left with Teresa. Maria's dad leaves at 5:00am to work.
Maria was finished with make-up, hair, and outfit. She unplugged her phone from the charger and decided to call her best friend Leah. Leah was an american. Both her parents and her had papers.
~Phone call~
"Hello?" leah responded in a weak voice.
"LEAH! Wanna come over? We can go walking to school together." Maria said hopefully.
"Um... I've gotta get ready and I am no where near ready. I barely woke up." Leah said unanticipated.
"Just come over with your pj's and you can get ready here!" Maria said excitedly.
"Okay!" Leah said happily.
"Okay bye!"
"Bye."
~phone call ends~

10 minutes later the doorbell rings.
"Leah!"
"Hey!" Leah said.
"Where are your clothes?" Maria said.
"Oh I decided to change quickly and yeah i'm ready!" Leah said positively.
"Cool I guess." Both girls headed to the kitchen to make some breakfast. The whole time it was silent. Not one sound. A few minutes later, it was time for school.
"Let's go!" Maria yelled.
"Okay!" Leah yelled back while she flushed the toilet. They both headed out the door and started walking to school. The whole walk was silent. They both arrived at school and started to head towards their first period.
"Maria!" someone yelled. Maria quickly turned around and saw that Mark was calling her. Maria's heart started racing, her palms were sweaty, and she started turning red. Mark ran up to her and smiled.
"Hey." He said smiling.
"Uh...hey." Maria started gazing at his beautiful, light brown eyes.
"Want to go to class together?" He asked shyly.
"Yeah, sure!" Maria responded blushing. She was screaming on the inside and just looking into his eyes.
"So, have you heard about the elections?" Mark said looking at the floor.
"Not really. You see, i'm not into those kinds of things." She said rubbing her hand on her arm and was looking down.
"Well you should see the election because-" Marks voice trailed of as one of his friends pushed him out of the way. Mark laughed and went to take revenge and tackle his friends. His friends ran, which caused Mark to leave Maria alone. Maria frowned slightly and felt shattered on the inside. As soon as she felt like the day would start off great, Mark's friends had to spoil it by taking him away from her. Maria entered the classroom just to find one of her worst classmate, Stephanie, sitting in her seat. Maria approached the desk with a straight face.
"Um, excuse me. I sit here." Maria stated.
"Oh is it? My bad. I guess you have to sit where I usually sit. I'll just sit here with Mark." Stephanie said with an evil smirk on her face.
"Or I can move because, I know you love him with all your heart." She teased. Stephanie moved and giggled. Maria was bursting of anger, but didn't do anything about it. She just sat down and put her bag on the desk. Few seconds later, Mark came in and sat down next Maria, not saying a word. The whole time, Mark didn't talk to Maria. He wouldn't even look at her. This caused Maria to shatter even more. Hours passed and it was Lunch time. Maria scanned the whole lunch room to find Leah but, she was no where in sight. Maria pulled her phone out and txted Leah.

Maria sighed. Leah was the only friend she actually had. She had peers, but no friends or best friends. She walked into the cafeteria line getting her food, but as soon as she walked to go take a seat, a leg tripped her. She fell along with her tray. Everyone just stared and laughed. Maria could feel the hotness running through her face. She knew she was red as a hot pepper. She then saw the leg that tripped her.
"Hahahaha. Just imagine the thoughts running through Mark's head when he saw this. The things he thinks about you." Stephanie continued to laugh and walked away. Maria could see Mark staring at her and whispering to his friends in the corner of her eye. She has never felt so humiliated in life. Maria stood up and without hesitation, she ran towards the girl's restroom. Maria saw her own reflection and the mirror. She saw the stains and when she looked straight in her own eyes, she started feeling chills. She could tell how bad she felt through her eyes, and she knew how bad she felt. She burst out in tears and ran towards the hallway. The hall was empty so, she decided to go to a wall and sit down against it. Thoughts were going through her mind.
"What was Mark thinking about me?"
"What did he tell his friend?"
"Does he love me?"
"Mark probably thinks i'm a clumsy little girl. He will never love me now!"
These thoughts just kept on dragging on and on, to the point it made her feel that she didn't have a reason to live. Maria didn't know how long she could survive throughout high school. She heard footsteps and just stuck her face between her legs and arms crying.
"Are you okay?" A deep, but familiar voice asked. Maria stayed there in silence and just shook her head no. She then felt this person sit next to her and wrapping their arm around her.
"What wrong then? You can trust me." the deep voice said again. Maria looked up and turned her head, so that she could face the person. As soon as she turned around, she saw it was Mark. She could feel her heart racing, palms sweating, and her inside screaming.
"The fall. It just hurt a lot." Maria responded. Mark observed her face for a while.
"Are you sure that's it?" He said.
"Yeah." Maria responded wiping her tears from her face.
"Stephanie has nothing to do with this?" Mark said as if he was waiting for somwthing to come out of Maria's voice. Maria looked down and sat there in silence. Mark then broke the silence.
"I'm sorry you have to deal with her. I don't know what's gone into her. She was so sweet, but she has changed over the past few years." He said looking straight at the wall. Maria looked up at him and he looked down at her. The silence remained. Mark suddenly started to get closer and closer to Maria. Reaching down and targetting Maria's lips. Maria was moving in closer as well, but Maria's fairytale stopped.
"Oh Mark!" Stephanie chimed. Mark got farther away from Maria and Maria got farther away from Mark. They both cleared their throats and looked at Stephanie.
"Yes steph?" Mark said politely and innocently.
"I need you to come with me." Stephanie said without hesitating to grab his arm.
"Where?" Mark asked.
"Oh...just somewhere." Stephanie said. With that being that last words. Mark disappeared in the distance wiht Stephanie. Maria couldn't believe on what was about to happen.

Maria-"Mark almost kissed me!!"
Leah-"NO WAY! AAAAAAAHHHHH!!"
Maria-"I know right!"
Leah-"oh my gosh that's exciting but, I've got to go. I'm sorry."
Maria-"it's okay. Don't worry."
Leah-"okay. Love you. Take care."
Maria-"love you too bye."
Leah-"bye."
And with that. The phone call ended. It was 10:13pm and she heard the television. She then remembered what Mark said, so Maria headed downstairs and saw her whole family sitting on the couch. She joined along. Within a few minutes, the election came on, which was what Maria remembered about.
She heard about the candidates and saw that one candidate said harsh things towards Mexicans. He also said stuff about China.
"Was this what Mark was talking about?" Maria wondered. She kept watching and heard what he had to say.
"Pues, nos vamos a vivir en Mexico/ well, the we are going to live in Mexico." Maria's dad joked. Maria just grinned and kept watching. Next thing you know they are all sleeping on the couch. Maria wakes up and sees it's 12:56am. She stands up and walks to her room. She changes into comfy clothes, brushes her teeth, removes make-up, washes face, and ties her hair into a ponytail. She lays down and charges her phone. With all that done she is knocked out. Until her phone beeps. Maria grabs her phone and sees a message from Mark. She wants to answer, but is too tired. Oh well, maybe the Next day. Once again, Maria is knocked out and she falls asleep.
