Happiness (1 year later)

It's been about a year. Hikaru and I have been together for a year now, and we're about to graduate high school. We're planning on moving in together when we go off to college. Hikaru has already been getting job offers for his editorial skills.

Me on the other hand, I'm actually planning on being an author. Maybe a reporter, or just write my own novel. I honestly don't know quite yet. Writing manga sounds nice too but I'm just not sure yet.

Hikaru finally was able to move out of his dad's house and moved in with his aunt. His dad is still an alcoholic, and doesn't seem to want to quit. So Hikaru took a step to stay away from him.

My mom was finally able to get a solid job, and she's been doing pretty well. I guess this is what happiness is. Being content.

I walk down the hallways looking for Hikaru. People whisper about me as I walk, but in all honesty I don't really care. Not caring has been nice too.

I finally see Hikaru, and he rushes to me.

"Hey!" He exclaims, giving me a hug. He's surprisingly grown, and I'm just as small. I still have to look up at him, which is fine.

"So get anything back from you job interview?" I ask.

"He said he'd get back to me tomorrow." He smiles. "How's your book coming out? Got a title yet?"

I smirk. "You'll have to see."

He sighs. "Darn it, I was hoping for a hint or something." He laughs.

I laugh. "Let's get to class." I smile and grab his hand.

We go to our talent class, and the assignment was to draw your partner. Of course, Hikaru and I were partners and we ended drawing each other.

Things have been going pretty good, and it seems like it's going to stay that way. I haven't really heard a whole ton from my dad and Jessie. They kinda just stopped talking to me for a while. I'm not really sure what's going on with them, and I plan not to. They've caused too many problems with me and I'm finished with that.

The rest of the school day seemed to go by in a breeze. Hikaru and I drive to his aunts place and we go up to his room. I help tutor him still, he always has troubles with his Japanese class. It's nice though, it just gives us more time to spend with each other.

I didn't really know what a happy ending was. Hikaru showed me what that was really. After everything I had been through he had pulled me through it. He's always there for me, and I know he will be. I guess this is happiness.

He scratches his head a bit. He looks at me and smiles.

"I'm just curious, can you at least tell me what your book's title is?"

I smile a bit. "It's called Freak."
