I came barging through my apartment door, boiling hot and with my hair stuck to my face. My roommate turned to me and pulled the most perplexed face, which did loads for my confidence seeing as it was quarter to six and my date was going to be here to pick me up in fifteen minutes!
'Jesus,' my horrified roommate said. 'Chris is going to be here real soon and you're only just coming in!'
'Well you know I wasn't in, so you must have known this was going to happen!'
'Actually I thought you were in your room.'
'And you didn't think to check?'
'I was busy,' she said, taking another bite of the doughnut in her hand as she flicked through her magazine.
'Yeah, you look busy,' I rolled my eyes. 'Come on.'
'Come on what?'
'You've gotta help me get ready. You just said yourself that he'll be here any minute. Help me, please?'
She groaned and shoved the last mouthful of doughnut into her mouth before following me into my bedroom. I quickly touched up my makeup at my dressing table whilst my best friend brushed through my hair for me, sprayed it with some dry shampoo and started to add a couple of braids to my wavy hair. Luckily, I had already pulled a pale pink dress out of my wardrobe the night before so I knew what I was wearing, so once I was made up and my hair was done, I slipped out of my work clothes and pulled on my dress, with my roommate doing up the zipper whilst I tried to decide on my shoes.
'He's pretty tall,' I said. 'Do you think heels? Or will I look like I'm trying too hard?'
'You haven't got time to make decisions like this, he'll be here any m-'
Before she could even finish speaking, there was a knock on our front door.
'Crap,' I put my head in my hands.
'I'll get the door, you get your shoes on. Go!'
I quickly grabbed the tan heels that were at the front of my shoe rack. They were the most comfortable heels I owned so I could be tall and not worry about wobbling all over the place. Once the straps were fastened around my ankles, I took one last look at my rushed appearance, grabbed my bag and headed out into the hallway.
'So, how long are you here for before you head off to start filming again?' I could hear my nosey friend asking.
'Well, I'm not filming for a couple of weeks but –' Chris stopped talking as I walked into the hall. 'Wow, you look so pretty. Just, wow.'
'Thanks,' I felt myself blush.
I looked him over, loving the look of him in his dark denim jeans, grey t-shirt and black jacket.
Then Chris held his hand out to me, 'You ready to go, beautiful?'
I just nodded and took his hand. Now I was really blushing.
'You guys have fun,' my roommate called back to us as she made her way back into the apartment, probably to the kitchen for something else to eat!

Chris had planned this date as a surprise, so I had no idea where we were going. It was a lovely, warm summer's evening so I was really happy when Chris told me we were going to be outside. But nothing could have prepared me for the beautiful setup he had prepared. We ended up heading to the rooftop of a restaurant, and when we stepped through the door the scent of flowers hit me. The roof was a garden, full of beautiful flowers and luscious, green plants. In the centre there was a small fountain, and next to that was a collection of blankets laid out with a hamper on the grass and an ice bucket with a bottle of champagne in it.
'Wow,' was all I could say as my eyes scanned over the beautiful setting again. 'This is incredible.'
'I'm so glad you like it,' Chris let out a breath. 'I hoped you wouldn't think it was cheesy or stupid, I just wanted to do something different, you know? Plus it's more private, nobody about to spoilt it and –'
I broke his sentence off with a kiss, before adding, 'It's perfect.'
We sat on that rooftop all evening, until the stars lit up the night sky and Chris lit candles to make everything even more magical. We drank champagne and ate the goodies that Chris had packed into the hamper, having the most wonderful evening. Laying together on those blankets, looking up at the stars and laughing the way we were made me realise that night that I love Chris.
'I suppose we'd better go inside before we catch a cold.' Chris said, propping himself up on his elbows, looking down at me.
'OK, but there's one last thing I want to do.' I said looking up and him.
'What's that?' he asked.
'This,' I said quietly, as I pulled Chris back down towards me and kissed him.
