.:. Asher's Point of View .:.
It all happened so fast. I think that today will forever be imbeded in my memory. All the blood shed, all of the loss. I was tending to the crops on my family farm when it happened. I heard a yell when I was feeding the chooks.
It wasn't a normal yell either, it was a word resounding throughout the whole Kingdom. Attack. We were under attack. All of a sudden the yell was cut off. Following it was a scream. A high pitch sound that nearly burst my ear drums.
I ran to the big hill on our farm estate. That was when I saw them. There were thousands and thousands of men and was that witches. Wait no scratch that there were millions. All heading for the castle walls.
I ran back to my home only to find bags packed. My mother was in the kitchen packing supplies. My father was packing weapons and my little sister was crying. " Asher, calm your sister down and take her into the woods. Into the clearing. You remember how to get there?" I nodded to my father telling him that I understood. My father was a very carefull man, he always prepared for the worst. My sister Spencer and I always made fun of him and laughed till our stomachs were hurting. No one was laughing now.
" We will meet you there. Take care of her. Don't let anyone harm her." I nodded again. My family was my life. No one was going to harm my sister without dealing with me.
I grabbed one of the bags that my father had finished packing. It was an old rust sack, I slipped into over my shoulder and grabbed my sister. I turned and kissed my mother. Nodded to my father. Then I ran out the door and into the surounding woods.
Holding my sister tightly comforting as silent tears still continued to roll down her face. I ran for what seemed like hours, but in reality it was only about half an hour. But I was carrying an old heavy rust sack, and my sister, whilst running through the woods!
When we finally arrived it seemed to be a little bit after Twilight. I made a small camp near the river. I loved this spot. It was a very beautiful sight and it was a perfect escape from the ways of life, or in my case, escaping death or torture.
I had just put my sister down for a sleep. She seemed very tired after all the crying she had done on the way here. I bent down and kissed her. My family meant everything to me. I was a very strong fighter, and was going to be taken up in the Kings guard next year. Oh well, I guess that isn't going to happen now.
I stood up and walked to the near by stream to get some water. I heard the snap of a twig a little to my right. I slowly crept towards the source of the noise. Staying in the shadows of the trees I saw a very pretty girl shaking and sobbing. She wore a simple crimison dress. It was very fancy telling me that she was high up in the food chain. I mean, had a high status or even a title.
She didn't seem to hear me approach. I took out my knife that I had lodged in my sock. I was shocked to see her alone. Where was her family? My subconsious asked. I then started thinking about where my family was. I started to get scared then. What if something happened to them? I needed to get back to my sister.
Finally when I was behind her I pressed the blade to the middle of her neck. She gasped when she realised what had happened. Her crying seemed to have subsided for the time being. I said the only thing that came to mind in my scared state.
" Don't scream, or you die. Don't run, or you die. Answer when I ask you questions and don't talk when not spoken too. You got that?" She nodded her head. She was scared. I knew it. She knew it. I felt resentment towards this girl. She was probably some Noble or Lady that never had to move a finger to get what she wanted.
Her father was probably rich and she had everything handed to her on a silver platter. I then became curious as towards who this girl may be. I then asked her, " What is your name, and who are you?"
All of a sudden her body tensed. She doesn't want us to know who she is. I thought. I released the knife from her neck and spun her around so that she was facing me. But she wasn't looking at me, instead she was staring at the ground with such a fasination, as if it was the most interesting thing on earth.
Finally she raised her head and after what looked like she had had a lot of contemplation about her answer she finally spoke. " Lady Angelica of the Northern Kingdom." She answered curtly. I knew of Lady Angelica. I had never met her, nor did I ever want to from the roumors I had heard.
She was a concieted little rich girl that got whatever she wanted. She was from the Northern Kingdom which is where I am from. She is roumored to be very beautiful. Well I suppose she is. She had a fairly innocent glow about her. What am I saying, I'm going soft.
" What are you doing out here Lady Angelica?" I questioned her, sneering the name Lady. I only had respect for the Royals. By the Royals I mean; the King, the Queen and the Princess. I had met the King and Queen and they were both kind hearted souls. I can only imagine what the Princess is like.
Not many people have ever seen the Princess of the Kingdoms. This is due to the King and Queen being very protective of her. She is believed to be very beautiful, even more beautiful than the Queen herself. She supposedly displays the best characteristics of her mother and father and is a very kind soul that doesn't believe in death, cruelty and violence.
I wonder what has become of the Royal family? Are they still alive? While I was lost in thought I didn't realise that the sun was beginning to sink lower and lower over the horizen. Then she answered the question, " I ran away using an escape route that brought me here. I am a coward. A stupid, selfish coward. I don't deserve to live. My parents should be here not me. They would restore peace......" I let her continue her rant until she finally stopped talking.
" Come with me." I turned around and walked away. I walked a few steps before I realised she wasn't following me. " Look we can do this the easy way or the hard way. Either way I am not letting a girl wander around the forest alone at night. Now follow me or I will come over there and carry you myself." I told her.
She reluctantly followed me. She didn't really come that close to me, which was understandable as I had threatened her life not a few minutes ago. When we made it back to the small camp I checked on my sister to find her safe and sound, and still asleep.
I turned to her and threw her a blanket. She caught it with surprising good reflexes for a girl, and a Lady. She looked up at me with her blue-green-yellow eyes that I could get lost in forever. They were blue on the outside, green in the middle and had a thick line of yellow surrounding the iris. " Thank you." She said to me before laying down and going to sleep.
If only some of us were that lucky. I had to stay up on guard duty. Not that I minded though, if it was keeping my sister safe I was happy. I didn't really know what to do with the girl, Lady Angelica. I suppose my parents will know what to do with her. I will just have to wait until they get here.
With that happy thought I began to keep a watch of the surrounding forest trees .........
