Maybe It's All In Our Heads
Laughter is to happiness as crying is to sadness
Yelling is to anger as smiling is to peace and serenity
Disgust, fear, anger, sadness
Happiness, and joy
All these words
We "feel," as they say
But do we?
Do we actually feel these things?
Maybe it's all in our heads
Simply colours in our brain
Maybe it's all in our heads
Maybe there's nothing that's "sane"
We've all been told
That these words are important
Important to our mental ability to be sane
But are they really?
No one ever thinks deeply about it
Maybe they're just colours?
Shades and hues swirling in our minds
Maybe it's all in our heads
Blue is to sadness as yellow is to happiness
Red is to anger as white is to peace and serenity
Green to disgust
Purple to fear, and pain
Pink to joy
and black to depression
It's common to describe them as colours
But, for some reason, no one says, "Paint yourself however you like"
or "Don't worry, emotions are just colours of our imagination."
Maybe it's all in our heads
There is one emotion, however
That maybe isn't just in our heads
Maybe it's in our hearts, too.
People often describe it as
Red .... like anger
Pink .... like joy
Yellow .... like happiness
Purple .... like fear, and pain
White .... like peace and serenity
and blue .... like sadness
All of these colours add up to one
One simple word
Love.
Love is all of these things
Smashed together like cake on a toddler's face
Love is vibrant as a rainbow
Spiraling down from our heads
All the way to our hearts
True love involves anger .... so it's red
True love causes pure joy .... so it's pink
True love provides happiness, so it's yellow
True love isn't true without a little risk, fear, and pain .... so it's purple
True love inspires a blinding peace .... so it's white
And without sadness in your life, are you really living?
Can happiness exist without sadness?
Can light exist without darkness?
No. One cannot exist without the other
So, true love has to involve sadness
It has to be all the emotions
To truly be true
Without them, how would we know if it's true?
If it's not strong enough to withstand sadness, fear, pain, and anger
Is it actually true?
So maybe it's all in our heads
Maybe none of these "emotions" mean anything at all
Maybe they're all just colours
And love is just all of them combined
Maybe all of the other emotions would be nothing without love
and maybe love would be nothing without all of the other emotions
Maybe, just maybe,
Love is in our hearts
And everything else...
Is in our heads

FantasyThis is actually a poem I wrote when I had a bunch of spare time in class. I was having a lot of deep thoughts about emotions.
