"My name is Rei the leader and the creator of the group known as COBRA."

I said seethingly into the satellite hand radio.

" You better think twice before you and your greenies come towards those gates Nathaniel or there will be hell to pay."

I slammed down the radio and rubbed my temples trying to get rid of my new migraine the greenies had created. I poured my self a glass of water and quickly downed it and rose to do my daily rounds. I left my office that was once the principals and made my way towards the school's courtyard. As I walked down the hall I looked at the cracked floors that had once been spotless and saw the remnants of a student council poster still attached to the wall from before the end. I created this safe place through blood and tears of the past and that's that I said to myself remembering the cost of safety. I forced myself to change the subject and focused on the task at hand of the greenies attempting to force their rotten thoughts into my camp. How one could see the abominations as nature's punishment on us, and how all that don't repent should be eaten by them is beyond me.

I then pulled open the door to the courtyard and let the afternoon sun rush into the dimly lit hallway. My steps echoed in the courtyard as I surveyed the area. In the middle are the gardens that are doing well, as usual, the talented gardeners Renae, Jamie and Willow picked green beans and tomatoes. On the far left is the front of the school which faces the road and on the right the back of the school that dips down into a small forest. Around the whole school is the tall iron black gate that was built by the school to keep the students in, but now ironically keeps people out. By the front of the school, we built a tower and painted it black to serve as our watch-tower. It's pretty tall but no one goes up there except...Victoria.

I shook my head then continued to walk towards Renae.

"Renae. Jamie. Willow."

I yelled to them to get their attention. They slowly put down their baskets filled with crops and made their way over to me in their overalls and boots. Renae is 16 with short rust-colored hair and sterling eyes, she was one of the first to come to the school when I made the call for survivors to come here. In a way, I could call her a friend as we've been through a lot together. Willow one of the other gardeners is about to be 13 she's on the shorter side with long red hair and green eyes, she also has a slight Irish accent. She came here with Renae as they were neighbors before the apocalypse came into full swing. Finally, there is Jamie, she's 15 and came here a year after the apocalypse banging on the ironclad fence. She looked as if she had been living in the wild with the Z's, her brown hair was matted and her hazel eyes jerked every which way observing us for signs of danger. I originally refused to let her in as our number one rule is to never open those gates unless absolutely necessary, but Victoria let her in for some reason. Victoria isn't in any way above my command but in a way she's like the elder to all of us. She rarely speaks but when she does her judgment is always right on point so we tend to listen to her. Since that day Jamie has become an important member as she had incredible fighting skills and she had with her our current radio phone.

"Yes Rei"

Renae called as she walked up to me and did a quick gesture of respect. I smiled and cleared my throat.

"Are the crops coming along as usual? Do we have enough to last us till next growing season in 5 months?"

As soon as I spoke Willow piped up with an answer.

" Banrion Rei we have collected enough food to last us 7 months"

She said proudly before she was hissed at by Jamie to keep quiet. I eyed Willow wordlessly and stared into her eyes before she acknowledged my threat and quickly looked away in fear.

"That will be all"

I said with a frown and slowly stalked away, out of the corner of my eye I watched as Renae slapped Willow across the face then immediately both her and Jamie were dragged back to the field by an angry Renae. Next, I visited Clarissa my weapons expert that was stationed in the gym on the far side of the courtyard, day one she had shoveled in tons of dirt to cover the floor so it could be used as a training ground for the hunters, knights, and guards. I did a quick knock then entered the almost empty gym, it was midday so the students were at lunch and or school.

"Clarissa"

I called and was met by a quick yeah from the back of the gym in the weapons stand. She was inside polishing her prized weapons Ares and Hades, her 2 iron swords.

"Yes"

She called again without looking up but still acknowledged me by doing a gesture of respect.

"How are the recruits coming along"

I stated my voice void of emotion. Clarissa looked up finally and drew her hands together.

"Rina and Dean show promise but Max is a bit too slow I might move him to guarding or farming maybe."

I sighed and rubbed my still aching forehead.

"What of the young children learning the basics."

She slightly smiled then went back to polishing.

"Kylee focuses too much on school to be a special as a knight, Wendy is too slow, Trevor could become a special with hard work and Calvin is a lost cause in following orders, his mother has fed that behavior."

My frown deepened to an outraged growl, Shyla had been feeding that boy this behavior since we took her in, no discipline.

"He will be punished."

I stated shortly before nodding my head and heading back to the courtyard. No one will disrespect me and expect to get away with not following our strict system. I quickly walked out of the gym and back towards the direction I had come from. Boiling with rage at this child's insolence towards someone who could teach him how to survive in this hellish reality. As I stormed past Willow, Jamie, and Renae all glanced up but didn't say a word as they saw the fire dancing in my eyes and quickly returned to their work.

When I reached the building I opened the side door I came out of before and stomped my way down the hallway, going to the left this time and walked down towards the classrooms. As I walked down the hallway I looked into the many empty classrooms, the desks still sat in their rows, as we had no use for all the rooms.

I neared the classroom Calvin was supposed to be in and knocked on the door. Larisa the other teacher besides Shyla answered the door and did the common gesture of respect. I entered the classroom and it suddenly was as if all the sound was sucked out of the room. All the children stared sheepishly hoping it wasn't their name I was going to call.

"Calvin"

I said sternly and looked for his brown hair and almost black eyes. I looked at the last chair in the back and there he was with one foot propped up on his desk.

"What do you want Rei"

He said with distaste and looked me straight in the eyes. I clenched my teeth and instead of frowning bared a big smile that would make anyones skin crawl. A brief flash of concern and fear crossed his eyes before the same snootiness appeared again. I was raging but I wanted to remain calm in front of the children.

"Come with me now Calvin."

I said as monotonous as possible. Larisa stood by the door head up but clearly uncomfortable and tried to signal him to listen. Larisa is 18 with honey-colored hair and brown eyes, and for some reason, she wanted to teach snot-nosed kids, even though she is quite amazing with a handgun. After much more pestering by Larisa at Calvin and he still refused to listen to me I let loose a menacing growl and yelled with finality.

"Calvin you are to be tested by the trial of combat"

All the children gasped collectively and were immediately fearful for their peer. For they all knew it was the deadliest as it was held outside the gate.
