"Mr. and Mrs. Smith, I think you should have a seat for this." Dr. Bridgewater, the OBGYN said to me and your father after taking a sonogram of the little baby moving in my tummy. Anxiety instantly swept over our bodies. I was in my final trimester and I was beyond ready to meet my baby girl.

"The sonogram shows that your baby has a deformed heart. However, I can still hear a faintish heartbeat. In order to ensure that the baby is okay, we are going to have to perform an emergency C- Section."

"Oh my gosh. No..." I cried leaning on your father's chest.

How could this be? Why did this have to happen to me? Lord please let my baby girl be okay... I thought to myself.

After changing into the hospital gown and registering, I was immediately rushed to the operation room. Before the doctors performed the surgery, your father came to me and grabbed my hands and prayed.

"Dear Lord, your humble servants come to you now asking for your grace and mercy. Lord, please spare our innocent baby girl's lives. If she survives, we will do everything in our power to ensure that she has everything she ever needs or wants. Lord, please entrust your little angel to your servants. We know that with you all things are possible. Amen." He prayed then kissed me on my forehead.

Twenty four hours and five doses of anesthesia later, I heard it....the sound of your lungs awakening as a mighty shout escaped your tiny body.

"Thank you God!" I shouted and cried as the doctors placed you in my hands. Without any question, your father and I looked at each other and instantly figured what your name would be. Heaven Mercy because we knew that it was only because of God's grace that you were born and we got our own slice of heaven when we got you.

After a moment of basking in the moment with our new baby girl in our hands, the nurse took you from me and placed you in an incubator.

"Mr. and Mrs. Smith, it looks as though your child's heart is deteriorating by the minute. We've never seen anything like it before." Dr. Bridgewater told us.

She compared your heart to an apple being exposed to heat. "Once an apple is bitten and is left somewhere for a while, the inside of the apple gets darker and darker until it looks rotten. Well that's how your daughter's heart looks. The heart is getting darker and darker by the minute. The only way she'll be able to survive is if we remove her heart."

"Remove her heart? What? How the hell is she going to survive without a heart?' Your father shouted.

After being calmed down, we agreed to let the doctors operate on you. A mechanical heart was placed inside of you. The doctors needed you to be under 2 hour supervision to monitor the rate at which the heart was working so you lived in the hospital for 2 years. We visited you every single day and ensured that you were comfortable in your little room in the hospital.

The doctors said that you could home for your second birthday but when we were about to take you out of the hospital you cried because you wanted to spend your birthday with all of your friends at the hospital. In that moment, we knew that you were truly our own personal piece of heaven. Time for bed now, you're going to be 3 tomorrow baby and we couldn't be happier to have you home with us. We love you baby. Goodnight...
