Often times, as a cashier you tend to notice the details of everyone who comes into the shop. Today began with the usual customer Double Bacon, Egg, and Cheese guy with his cigarette smelling red jacket and unusually optimistic grin. He was followed up by The Cop, another regular. After that, it was the breakfast rush rolling in at 8:00.
I was not sure what to expect of a typical Sunday, but my day dreams were cut short when a young toddler cried out in a fit with her single father. I felt my heart squeeze to hear a child sound so sad. But, to my surprise she wasn't throwing a fit! She was calling to another toddler, a little boy with his single mother. The parents paid only a small smile; the type of response that said "How cute!" with no regard to their potential relationship. More or less, they parted ways but I couldn't help but feel my heart leave with the children as they continued with their babbling and coos at one another. It was love at first sight and they hadn't even known it.
