I flashed back to the cafeteria at lunch. It was a regular day, everyone sitting at normal tables. I was chatting happily with Greg and Miguel while eating my sand which as I always would. Then he came. The door exploded, sending wood, glass, and bits of brick everywhere. I was far away from the explosion, which was good. I didn't feel like getting a chunk of debris to the face. He was incredibly handsome for a criminal. All the girls in the class pretended to be scared, but I knew they were focused more on his face and long black hair under his beanie than the fact he just walked from an explosion that he caused. Which frightened me even more was the fact he walked in staring directly at me. Everyone shifted their heads toward me, then back to the man. I scanned him, thinking someone who just blew up a door would have other weapons. Unfortunately, I was right. He was armed with two handguns at his side, and something that looked like an explosive. He quickly grabbed Vanessa and held her at gunpoint, still looking at me as if he knew. That confused me. How did he know?
I had had a "crush" as my friends called it, on Vanessa since the third grade. He started chuckling as tears of frustration and despair ran down from Vanessa's face as she tried to get loose from his grip. He was too strong though, which frightened me even more. By then, I was practically shaking. He then pulled off his beanie. I thought he pulled it off due to the fact that it was about 80 degrees out, but he was hiding something under it. Big, black, horns. I realized who he was. I had heard somewhere that the devil was handsome, and considering he had horns, I didn't need half a brain to figure out it was him. I stared him down, and examined the horns. His hair was also black, which made him look like he didn't comb his hair. I decided to call him Bedhead. I held in my laugh though, considering the situation. He started rambling about how he would kill Vanessa unless someone volunteered to be killed for her. No one did, even me. I had a better plan. I waited till he was turned around to run.
My friends were disgusted, thinking I was running away and abandoning them. I had no time to explain my plan, so I just ran silently to the back doors. The cafeteria had a loft above a wall, specifically the one that had just been exploded. I had to get there, and fast. I ran as fast as I could, but tried not to stomp. Then I realized it. How would I get to the loft without him seeing or hearing me? The stairs to the loft were connected to the hallway he had walked down before obliterating the cafeteria entrance. I had to get around it. I looked around for anything or anywhere that would help me get to the loft. I imagined the outside of the school, hoping there was a way up there. I remember the window on the loft was always kept open, and I figured I could get in through there. For as skinny and week as I am, I'm pretty fast. I made a quick dash outside, and stared at the window, looking for a way to get up there. There were windows of other classrooms near it, but they were closed. I looked at the fence, conveniently next to the row of window sills. I climbed the fence, and pulled myself above the metal pole on top. The jump from the fence to the window sill looked a lot smaller on the ground, but now it seemed like jumping the Grand Canyon. I remembered who I was doing this for, and jumped. I tried not to scream so that I wouldn't alert Bedhead.
I moved from sill to sill, feeling like Indiana Jones. I felt confident, until I almost lost my grip and fell onto the cement. I recovered and made my way into the loft window. I could hear Bedhead below me, speaking threats to Vanessa's life as everyone stared in shock. "Now, does anyone at all care to step up, or should I just hurt her now?" Being the smart-Alec I was, I jumped down the side of the loft saying " No, but I could hurt you!" I was falling above him, ready to kick him in the face. Out of nowhere, a purple orb surrounded me, like a hand was grabbing me. It was moving in sequence with Bedhead's hand. He then thirsted forward, and I gulped. I knew what would happen next.
I was sent flying across the cafeteria, watching Bedhead give an evil grin. I braced for impact, I knew it would be anytime then that I would hit the wall and break all of my bones. I hit the wall, but felt no pain at all. I fell off the wall and onto the tile floor. I looked back, and saw a huge broken area in the wall, looking like a meteor had hit it. Thousands of thoughts had raced through my head. Had I hit the wall that hard? If so, how powerful is this guy? How is my spine not broken? I got up, relived I wasn't dead, and heard a clank on my feet. I looked down, revealing transparent golden boots on my feet, and body armor made of the same material. It looked as if I was wearing armor made of some sort of light. I turned my head around to look at my back, but hit my head on a cylindrical object. I felt it, and it resembled the handle of a sword. I pulled the handle up, and sure enough, a sword glided out of it. With instinct, I looked straight at Bedhead, holding the sword. It was incredibly big, and I wondered how I was carrying it. I began to hover, which then lifted me higher. I started ascending and descending a few inches rapidly, and felt air being pushed at me behind my back. I ran my hands around my back and felt feathers. I became even more confused, because it appeared I now had wings. I have Bedhead a look of bravery, and ordered him to put Vanessa down.
