Once Charlotte arrived to Thomas's house, her tears had dried. The house she approached was small, but cozy. Thomas let her in immediately, and cuddled with her on the worn couch in the living room.

Charlotte sighed. "I love your house. It's so cozy and warm. Unlike my house, yours looks like a family actually lives here."

Thomas ran his hand down her back. "Stay here as long as you like. But don't worry, you're parents will come around."

Charlotte decided to sleep at Thomas's that night. His dad had the night shift and therefore was not home. Charlotte was disappointed that she did not get to meet him. Lola was quick to cheer Charlotte up, and by the time Charlotte lay next to Thomas in his bed, she felt better.

She fell asleep, wrapped in Thomas's arms.

When Charlotte reluctantly returned to her house the next morning, she found her mother and father sitting at the breakfast table, something that they rarely did. It was too casual and informal thing to do, her mother always said. Her mother looked up when she heard Charlotte close the front door shut.

"Charlotte, come here." Surprisingly, her mother's voice was not angry, but instead soft and kind. Her mother sighed. "We're sorry Charlotte. I know that we're a little harsh on you sometimes, and that we're never here. I realize now what a mistake it was to have missed watching you grow into such an independent and strong girl." A tear ran down her cheek. "I've always wanted the best for you, though. And I do love you. I do sweetheart."

Charlotte hugged her mother and cried too. Her mother kissed her on the cheek.

Her father continued when her mother could not hold in the tears any longer. "If you want to go to music school, that's your choice. I'm not necessarily in agreement with your decision, but I do believe in doing what you love. So there you go. Maybe we can get your future child to go to Yale though, just to continue the line."

"Ok, we'll see," Charlotte said with a chuckle. "Thank you."

Charlotte immediately called Thomas and told him the good news. He congratulated her, but seemed to have something on his mind.

"What is it?"

"It's just that I don't know if I got the scholarship for Yale, yet. What if I don't?"

"I'm sure you will, Thomas. You're the most amazing person I've ever known. Why wouldn't they give it to you?"

"Thanks, Charlotte."
