I stopped running and started panting. There was a few branches covering my view from the place that I was to meet my brother. I hesitated and looked to Tink for approval. She did an aggressive nod and I moved the branches from my face. There was what some would call a "dramatic scene for a dramatic moment." There was what looked like a beach part of Neverland. One medium sized boy stood in between the forest and the ongoing ocean. He looked from left to right in search of something or... someone. I cleared my throat, took a step towards him and said, "Brother?"
The boy turned to me and I could then really see what he looked like. He had a brown mop of hair on his head, an oval face, green eyes and a narrow nose. "Lily?" I nodded and after I did so, he motioned for me to come over to him. I obeyed his wish. He then bent down and took a handful of sand. Quietly, I watched the sand fall through his fingers and a note became visible in the palm of his hand. He shook off the rest of the sand from his hand and unfolded the note. My brother, (whoa it's going to take me a long time before I can call him my brother without feeling awkward) started to read.
"Dear Emerson, I'm sorry to have to leave you and your sister Lily like this. But I'm a young girl and where I'm from, it's not right for a youngster such as myself to raise children. Powerful people would take you and Lily and hurt you for what I have done. I can not let that happen to either of you. So I must leave you here in Neverland for someone else to take care of you. A kind fairy is taking care of your sister and I hope that the Lost Boys take care of you. I would stay with you, but someone from my neighborhood would notice my absence and that would put all of us in danger. So, I'm going to return home once I finish writing this letter. I will be punished; but you two are worth it. In case the two of you get separated, make sure that you find your way back to each other. Best wishes, Your Mother." Emerson folded the note up and stuffed it in his pocket.
"Whoa." I said. "I know it's a lot to take in. You just found out that you have a long lost brother, you meet him and he's already telling you about the mother that you've also never got to meet. But as we start to get to know each other; things will slowly ease in and settle into your mind and you might get accustomed to the knowledge of a loving mother and caring twin brother." I didn't know how to reply, so I just simply said, "Okay."
Then; i thought of something to say.
"Hey, in the note, she said that the Lost Boys were taking care of you. Does that mean you're a Lost Boy?" I gave him not a look of anger, but of curiosity towards the subject. "Yes. Yes I am." Emerson answered. "Why would you wish to know?" I tried to think of a way to explain my determination of being a lost boy myself and found one. "Ever since Tink told me the stories of Peter Pan and the lost boys; I've wanted to be one too. Today, when she told me that I have a brother, then my mind opened up to the possibility that, you could be a lost boy." I looked up at him with inspiration in my eyes. Emerson looked back at me and an excited smile swept over his face. "Why don't you come back to the Lost Boys' place with me." "I'd love to." I started. I smiled back at Emerson. But my smile quickly faded as I remembered something. Emerson's expression changed as well, once he saw my smile disappear. "What's wrong?" Sympathy shone throughout his features. "It's just that I'm a girl and their the Lost Boys. I don't think they'll let me be well, one of them." I wasn't hurt about knowing this, I only felt sadness. "Then we'll make them let you in." I was surprised to hear this and I looked up at my brother in astonishment. He was definitely my older brother, even if he was only older by two seconds. No younger brother of mine had that much confidence. "But-" Before I could finish asking, he cut me off by answering. "We can make you look like a boy and we'll tell them that you're my brother, who I have recently found." Emerson seemed so proud of himself with coming up with this plan. I have to admit, it's a pretty good plan. Yes, it is quite risky; but it made me happy knowing that my brother cared about me; his selfish sister.
"C'mon, I'll show you the way." Emerson started running, but I eventually caught up to him. "Hey, why didn't you wait for me?" I asked him. Since Emerson stayed quiet, I decided to drop the subject. "So; what's it like living with the Lost Boys?" I asked, hoping that this was something he might answer. "Every morning we eat what we all agree on having for breakfast. Wait; how about you be more specific? Or else I'll probably narrate every small detail of my days spent with them." After he finished speaking, he had a little laugh at the last thing he said. "Alright. How about...hmmm." I thought for a second. "What do you guys do for fun?" I inquired.
"That depends on what we all want to do and if we're all in the mood for it. But it mainly depends on what Peter wants to do and if he's in the mood for it. If he's in the mood for teasing Captain Hook; then we tease Captain Hook. If he's in the mood for visiting the fairies; then we visit the fairies. If he's in the mood for a dueling tournament; then we have a dueling tournament. Sometimes he'll think of something new to do and we'll all join in. Sometimes if a Lost Boy has an idea that all the Lost Boys agree on, then we can do what he said." Emerson sure had a lot to say. It almost sounded like he had rehearsed this conversation, knowing what I was going to ask and being able to answer my questions with ease. He may have just found me now, but it's as if he's known me his whole life. I smiled at him and he smiled back. Then Emerson spoke. "Here we are."
