Once the light signaled me to walk, I ran towards Karma and gave him his usual hug.
"Hey there Okuda. How was school?" he asked, letting go of me gently.
We began to walk side by side, "It was great! Nakamura tripped on the last step of the stairs and it was hilarious! I wish I would've known she was going to fall so I would've recorded it and shown it to you!"
Karma let out a loud laugh and shook his hand. "Don't worry about it haha! I can already imagine!"
"Haha well, yeah! That was the highlight of my day! How about you? How was school?" I asked while shifting my bag from my shoulder to holding it with both hands. Dang, this bag is heavy today thanks to all the homework.
"It was fine until our professor handed back our Math Free Response quizzes. I got a 98. A 98!!" Karma said loudly, "And you know why? Because I forgot to put the unit of a number. So fucking stupid!"
"Well, it was free response and if it's of any consolation, I once got an 90 for forgetting to answer the last question. I just wanted to be done with that test!" I shifted my bag to my shoulder once again. This is so uncomfortable!
Karma looked at me quizzically and stopped walking.
I looked back, "Karma?"
"Okay, why would your failure serve as my consolation? If anything I feel bad for both of us now." He took a step forward and stood in front of me, "Now let me carry your bag for you, it seems to be bothering you."
"No thanks! I got this Karma. I bet your bag is heavy too and I really don't want to burden you."
Karma smiled and refused to let me walk. "It's no burden! Either you give me your bag or we stand here like losers until you give it to me."
Noticing that we were already getting some dirty looks, I let out an annoyed sigh and handed him my bag. "Ugh fine! You can be really stubborn sometimes, you know?"
"Yeah, well I can say the same about you!"
I was about to respond to Karma's remark, but stopped when I heard laughter next to us.
"Oh I'm sorry! It's just really cute seeing teen lovebirds argue like that in public!" said the old lady who was eavesdropping on our bickering.
'Teen lovebirds'?
"Oh, I'm sorry ma'am! But you got it wrong! We aren't dating! We are just friends!" I rambled while trying to calm down the heat on my cheeks.
Karma looked amused by my sudden outburst and smirked, "Yeah well, you never know what the future holds for us Manami."
Before I could say something back, Karma wrapped his arm around me and poked my nose.
"I think it's awesome people view us as a couple!"
At this point, the lady was technically just enjoying the show of How Much Can Karma Make Manami Blush.
"I am truly sorry for misunderstanding! But it seems like your male companion already has something up his sleeve young lady." She patted my shoulder and walked away, still laughing.
Meanwhile, Karma still had his arm around me and I could no longer feel my face.
"Karma. She's gone. You can let go of me now." I tried to wiggle out of his arm but he persisted and held me tighter.
"But why? This is actually comfortable you know?" He replied while turning both of us around.
We began walking again and I could feel more eyes on us.
