Logan.

As I sat in my spinning chair in my art studio, I paused before applying another stroke of paint with my paintbrush. I checked my phone to see what time it was and it read 6:32PM.

"Shit." I mumbled to myself. I forgot all about my best friend, Caleb's, birthday party tonight. He's turning twenty five and we've known each other since we were in Mrs. Kingsbury's class in the eighth grade. I guess it's safe to say that I mostly hang around guys. I've never had many girl friends as I just never really bonded or connected with them as I do with males. I looked down at what I had on and sighed. Caleb told me he wanted me to dress up for his party but I literally had on leggings, a pair of white Converse, a cropped tank top, a hoodie on top with no makeup. His party starts at seven o'clock but I'm gonna have to go home to change.

I got home as quickly as I could and got dressed. As I began applying some makeup to my face, my phone buzzed on my bathroom counter where I was dressing my face.

Dad.

I hesitantly answered, "Hello?"

"Hey Log."

"Hey dad. How are you? Everything okay?"

"Yeah everything's going just fine. Just calling to see if you're coming down here to LA for Thanksgiving next week. Your mother and I and your brother and sister - your entire family, Logan would love to see you. I just," he sighed, "I don't understand why you insist on punishing everyone for something I did. Years ago at that."

"Are you still doing it?"

He sighed.

"That's why I've distanced myself. Look, I gotta go, daddy. Love you."

"Love you too." He sighed. I hung up the call and placed my phone back on the counter taking a deep breath. I then proceeded to continue doing my winged eyeliner. I checked in the mirror once more before deciding to leave for Caleb's birthday bash.

I got to the party which was being held at this restaurant called Mint. It was Caleb's favorite restaurant ever.

"Hi welcome to Mint! Are you here for the birthday party for Caleb?"

"Yeah." I smiled.

"Awesome. Heather will lead you right this way."

I followed behind the young woman the girl introduced me to and she began leading me to the back room of the restaurant where people could rent out space for large parties. I held Caleb's small gift box in my hand along with my wallet, phone and car keys. I hope he likes his gift.

"Here you are! Have a great night." The girl, Heather, told me motioning me to the closed door where I heard chatter, laughter and music blasting from.

"Thanks." I smiled once more. I opened the door and saw a bunch of guys and a few girls inside.

I saw Caleb look over at me and he lit up.
