"This is not a drill. Imperial troops have entered the ship." The PA system kept repeating throughout the entire star cruiser. Soldiers rushed past me, some bumping into me without an apology, and their guns were at ready. Undoubtedly rushing head first to defend the ship. Me on the other hand? I wasn't exactly for dying by a reckless action.

Plus my job was much more important than any other soldier. Protect Princess Organa and get her off of this blasted ship in one piece. It was the second ambush, the first not starting off with four star destroyers surrounding us.

I hustled down the long hallway, hearing blaster fire on the docking platform. Most of them sounded like bucketheads, but one distinctive rifle told me where my objective was.

She's such a brave fighter. Definitely not like any stereotypical Princess.

"Well well well, looks like Leia Organa needs backup." I sarcastically smirked as I joined her behind the few metal crates in the docking bay. Her domineering brown eyes watched me grab my A-280C blaster rifle off my back.

"Perfect timing, Sam." The Princess huffed in response before turning her attention back towards the stormtroopers. She peered over the boxes we were taking cover behind and fired her blaster rifle a few times. An agonizing scream verified she at least hit one.

Following her lead, I braced my shoulder for the recoil and fired my rifle a few times. We heard another stormtrooper fall to the ground.

"How many are left?" I asked the woman, watching her closely as she continued to return fire.

"Not enough to stop the Rebel Alliance." Leia responded to my question, giving a wry smile. "Cover my sides, I'm making a run towards the escape pods."

I could barely muster a "Yes, ma'am" before she bolted out of cover and charging at the unsuspecting Imperial scum. My feet subconsciously trailed after the Princess, and I shot my blaster at the troopers to get their attention. Leia was far ahead of me, and I counted five stormtroopers firing at her.

Though I was a bigger threat to them, they didn't even give me a second of their already wasted time. They knew Leia was the leader of the Rebellion and if they took her down, it would devastate the entire Rebel Alliance.

I wasn't going to let that happen.

"Hey, bucketheads!" I shouted, a desperate attempt for them to fire back. Three turned towards me, while two remained firing at Leia. Though they couldn't ever really hit anything, especially General Organa. She was very agile.

"Die, Rebel scum!" A stormtrooper growled, firing his blaster at me. I felt a stinging heat scorch past my arm, barely grazing my skin. I aimed without hesitation and returned fire at the uncovered troopers. They fell within seconds, and I advanced my position and used a sneak attack to take out the remaining stormtroopers.

I guess that training as useful after all.

Slowly, I edged around the metal boxes, watching Leia run up the boarding ramp and safely entering the escape pod. A sigh of relief escape my lips, but I went into alert mode as soon as I noticed the stormtroopers running up the ramp as well.

I jumped over the boxes and ran at full speed, but as I approached the escape pod, two stormtrooper bodies slid down the ramp and collapsed on the ground with an eerie clattering, blaster shots smoldering in their chests. The star cruiser rumbled and I stumbled towards the pod.

Leia was already in the pilot seat by the time I got on our one way ticket off this destroyed star cruiser, and I quickly slammed the hatch shut afterwards. She was buffing the engines up, her hands flying everywhere over the control panel.

"Fire it up, this ship is gonna go down any minute." I hustled my boss, making her glare at me after pulling the lever to release the escape pod.

The entire pod began to rumble and shake, power rushing to the engines and blasting off from the burning and severely damaged star cruiser. Leia used a steering lever to evade falling debris, getting clipped here and there by small floating pieces since her pilot skills not the sharpest...

"Nice shooting back there, Leia." I complimented, noticing her concentration in not dying.

The Princess scoffed, but a curve in her lips formed into a smile. "Not bad yourself, Sam."

How I loved when she said my name. It made me feel like I wasn't just another matyr for the rebellion.

"You should let me pilot, I took a three month course on piloting and managing just escape pods." I walked up beside the pilot's seat, extending my hand to grab for the steering lever, but Leia's rough and warm hand quickly grabbed mine, sending what felt like sparkling tingles up my arm.

My green eyes locked with her brown eyes, explosions flashing in hers. She quickly looked away, silently getting up and standing behind the chair. I stood there in a still quietness for a little bit, before something colliding into the side of the escape pod threw me off balance.

I quickly took a seat, grabbing the steering lever and manuevering us out of the direct danger. There were still four star destroyers surrounding us, and they would definitely be looking for escape pods. But with Leia nearby, I knew we would be okay, because I wasn't going to let anything harm her, no matter what.

"I guess we'll head toward that planet---" I was interrupted as someone, or something, softly touched my lips. Wait a second... was Leia Organa kissing me? Is this a dream? I quickly pinched my arm. Nope, definitely not a dream...

Leia ended the kiss, leaving me savoring for another.

"That's a thank you for getting us off that cruiser alive... I can't say the same for hundreds of my men though."

"Hey, it's okay." I gently cooed. "They knew the risks."

It was quiet again, except for the escape pod's engines roaring in the back. The planet that we were flying for was getting closer, and soon we would be grabbed by its gravitational pull, and I would have to try to crash land it so we both wouldn't die but I'm sure I'll think of something. For Leia.

Leia sighed dreamily, leaning against the back of the pilot seat. "How'd I get lucky enough to find you?"
