"Before we begin, let us welcome Durmstrang into our class." Professor Turner motions to the students standing with their chests puffed out and steely gazes. Each one looks more intimidating than the last, some have scars across their faces, which is no surprise. Durmstrang is very well known for teaching dark magic and they are experts in Defense against the Dark Arts, it makes sense that their students would be scarred and more deadly looking than a dragon. However, Riley doesn't look at the rest of them, instead her eyes are glued on the shortest girl up there. The only one without some marking on her face, but the only one to have that powerful look in her eyes and that is what sends chills down Riley's spine.
"Also, today is the last day to enter your names into the Goblet, no later than 4 this afternoon. Choosing Ceremony will commence at 6 sharp." Turner begins walking down the aisles of desk. "I trust that each one of you has considered this competition and understand," he stops in front of Lucas' table, "that if chosen...there is no objections." Lucas clenches his jaw and nods just the slightest. A shuddered breath leaves Riley as she turns back around in her seat. She really wishes Spencer was here, but the redhead was tasked with training a new chaser today, leaving Riley to sit alone.
Turner makes his way back to the front with a smile on his face. "Alright, Durmstrangs you may have a seat wherever is available." Well, maybe it's a good thing Spencer's gone. Riley's gaze finds Maya's and she motions to the empty seat. The blonde exchanges a few words with the two Durmstrang students that accompanied her at the Goblet. Riley wants to ask about them, she wants to know more about the striking Durmstrang girl. Maya walks in strides and her eyes run over unfamiliar faces in the room. Today there are no braids in her hair, it's all just thrown into a ponytail. It emphasizes her sharp cheekbones and jutting jawline, it even makes her eyes pop more. She makes her way to where Riley sits, in the middle of the room. She sits next to her without a sound and continues to stare fire at each Hogwarts student.
"Trying to ignite everyone on fire with your eyes, is not an ideal way to start off the day." Riley smiles brightly, hoping the blonde will roll her eyes or smile. However, Maya barley turns her head and her expression is blank and unamused. But what hurts, is that she stares at Riley with that fire gaze and it makes Riley feel small. Riley's face falls as Maya turns her head back to look over everyone again.
Confusion fills Riley, just yesterday they were talking and she can't remember upsetting the blonde. After what feels like an eternity, Maya turns her head to focus her thunderous eyes on Riley.
"You're staring." It comes out cold and even.
Riley subtly shakes her head and chuckles bitterly. "Okay, whatever game you're playing, you win." A flicker of confusion streaks through blue eyes.
"I'm not playing anything." Riley rolls her eyes and faces forward. If Maya wants to be her friend one minute and act like this the next, then fuck her. Riley doesn't play those games. She hears a quiet sigh before she notices the warm presence move closer. "I still don't know who Hogwarts champion is. I need to keep up an appearance." Riley turns slightly to see an unreadable face, but eyes swimming with honesty. "I'm not toying with you. Just let me be the short and scary Durmstrang girl for a little longer." The tiniest of smirks comes to Maya's face then it's gone in a flash. Riley rolls her eyes, but grins none the less. She nods before turning her attention back to the front. She'll put up with Maya trying to intimidate everyone she meets, although it's not like the blonde has to try. The first day Riley saw her, she still felt fearful of the blonde, even while she was laughing with those two friends of hers. Just because she was smiling, doesn't mean she's not dangerous.
Something catches Riley's eye. Looking over to Maya's notebook she notices the girl is in fact not taking notes, no instead she's drawing and it's beautiful. Riley finds it funny, someone like Maya, all clenched jaw and terrifying eyes is drawing flowers in her notebook.
