"Hey" Peter said as he softly knocked on my bedroom door. It was 6 in the morning and I was up which was odd.
"Hey" I said as I walked over to him.
"It's my first day back to work. Will you be okay?" He asked as he moved a piece of my hair out of my face.
I nodded and threw up a fake smile. He doesn't believe the smile but it's all he has.
"Okay. If you need anything you know where to find me or you have my mom and Mohinder" he said as he kissed my forehead.
"Okay" I said as I wrapped my arms around his neck and he wrapped his arms around my waist and gently squeezed.
"I'll be back for lunch" he whispered in my ear as he released the hug.
I nodded with a real smile as he turned and walked away. I went and sat on the end of the bed and listened for the door to shut signaling that Peter left. I picked up the picture I had framed of my dad and looked at it.
"You lied to me you know" I said to the picture.
"You promised that you would always be here and here I am crying of you.. The best I have are the pictures on my wall and the memories in my head" I said as I placed the picture on my night stand.
I returned to my bed and flipped on the tv and pulled out my laptop.
The laptops all I got until I get a new phone, I mean Peter has a home phone but what's that ganna do for me.
I skyped Claire knowing she wasn't doing anything plus I haven't talked to her since Peter and I got back a few days ago.
"Hey" I said when she answered.
"6?" She questioned.
"Sorry I just need to talk to someone I'll go crazy if I don't" I said shaking my head.
"How are Gray?" Claire asked.
I took a deep breath.
"Truth or lie?" I asked.
"Truth" she said.
"Not good" I said.
"I know how you feel. Grieving sucks especially when it's a parent" she said.
"It's hard. I mean he was absent almost eleven years of my life plus the six months I wasn't allowed to contact him but still" I said.
"I know Gray. I didn't know my dad or my mom for the first sixteen years of my life and they are both gone and I miss them a lot." She said.
"I'll let you go back to sleep" I said.
"Okay thank you I'll be up in New York in a week I'll visit you" she said.
"Okay" I said as I hung up.
I shut my laptop down and put it back and laid in my bed and tried to fall asleep but it was pretty much impossible. The last time I slept was yesterday afternoon and it was on the couch. I spent about two hours just staring at the ceiling and it would have been longer if someone hadn't knocked on the door. I got up and flipped off my tv and then walked to the door and checked the peep hole and seen Mrs. Petrelli.
I opened the door and let her in.
"Peter isn't home" I said as I shut the door.
"I know. I'm here for you" she said as she gave me a hug.
"Oh?" I said as I walked into the kitchen and seen a semi fresh pot of coffee.
I smile to myself as I poured myself a cup.
"Would you like a cup?" I asked.
"No thank you" she said as she sat at the table.
I walked over an joined her.
"Here is your information for college. Orientation is August 1st so you have a bit" she said handing me the packet of paper.
"Thank you" I said with a smile.
"Well I'll get going I have some stuff to do." She said as she got up and left.
I sat the packet down and leaned back and let out a breath. College wasn't something I wanted to do at all at least not at the moment but by the looks of it I don't have much of a choice besides its what's best for me anyway. I sat there sipping my Coffee until anther knock on the door came.
"Seriously" I said as I checked the peep hole and then opened the door.
"Miss. Gray?" The lady said extending her hand.
"Um yeah" I said as I shook the lady's hand.
"It's Mrs. Conner" she said with a smile.
"Oh what do you want" I said suddenly regretting opening the door.
"Since your sixteen now the state releases you from our care even though you haven't been in our care for years now but here is your stuff. And I'm sorry about your father " she said handing me a folder and leaving.
I slammed the folder on the table and went to my room hoping I could just take a nap even if it was just a ten minute nap.
"I cant do this!" I screamed as I sat up knowing the neighbors most likely heard me.
I jumped up and went to Peter empty room and laid in his bed hoping maybe the since of be alone is making me not fall asleep. I curled up and shut my eyes and fell asleep a bit later.
*four hours later*
I opened my eyes when I heard the front door open meaning Peter was home for lunch.
I got up and walked out of his room meeting him in the hall.
"I'm sorry I couldn't fall asleep in my room" I said looking down at the floor.
"It's okay. Did you fall asleep in there" pointing at his his room.
I nodded and looked up at him.
"Good" he said as we walked to the kitchen.
He made us lunch and then joined me at the table.
"What's this stuff?" He asked referring to the folder and stuff.
"Government stuff from the foster care stuff and then college stuff" I said as I ate my lunch.
"May I?" He asked picking up the folder.
"Sure" I said.
"Oh my gosh Sabrina you never told me you were arrested" he said looking up at me.
"What? I wasn't!" I said looking at him.
"I don't know Sabrina that's not what this says" he said shaking his head.
"What" I said as I got up and rushed over and looked at the paper over his shoulder.
"Hey it doesn't say that!" I said as I lightly hit his arm.
"I know" he said as he put the folder down and pulled me on to his lap.
I barred my head into his shoulder as I wrapped my arms around his neck and he rubbed my back. I didn't want him to leave for work again I wanted him to stay here I hated being alone.
I he carried me back to his room and laid me down.
"Duty calls" he whispered as he pecked my cheek.
"Don't say it like that!" I laughed.
He smiled as he left. I rolled over and fell asleep without a problem.
I woke up in Peters arms, he wasn't asleep he was just sitting against the headboard watching the news.
"How many people did you save today?" I asked not moving from were I was.
"About four" he said rubbing my back.
"That's good" I said with a smile
I took a deep breath and the nice smell of a hospital rushed in and with that I couldn't help but to smile bigger. I of all people was laying in the arms of a true hero, he saves people everyday and has saved the world twice.
