My heart is racing, fear pounding through my veins. I close my eyes and take a deep breath listening to the sounds of the busy city rushing just beneath my feet. Horns honk, the air is filled with the chatter of people calling to one another, somewhere a woman screams and a child cries. I open my eyes and peer over the edge of the thirteen story building I'm standing on.

Now, I know you're thinking this is just another story. A boy driven to the end of his rope decides to take the easy way out. But this is different and to explain it to you, I'll have to go back to the beginning, or at least the beginning of what I can remember.

Beep, beep, beep, beep. The noise echoes through my head, jerking my unconscious mind awake. My eyes are so heavy and it takes what feels like hours to open them. The first thing I notice is the man and white leaning over me, staring intensely.

"he's awake!"

The words resound throughout the small room I'm in and within minutes it is filled with people. Doctors and nurses rush around checking my vitals and examining me from head to toe. I try to remember something...anything. Sure, I can answer the most basic questions like "who is the president"? And "what is the difference between an apple and an orange"? But I don't know how I got here, where "here" is, what happened, and most importantly, who I am.
