PART 1 mix emotions

“Marilyn, would you please join me in the dining room for a moment” my mother’s voice echoed through the hall. I Suppressed a lazy grunt “coming!” I yelled from my bedroom. I know exactly where this is going, I played the conversation in my head “ Oh Marilyn, there is this lovely boy in my country club and you simply must meet him” and then I would say no and she would burst in tears saying “ It’s not normal for a twenty-year-old girl to be single”. I slowly walked down the stairs taking my time and preparing myself for the “boyfriend speech”. Just as I was about to enter the room I heard my mother’s heartbroken sob. Memories of that night swirled in my head. Before I knew it I was standing by her side with my hands shaking and my limbs numb. Confused she looked up at me and then as if reading my thoughts a sad expression fell across her face. She took my hand and held it gently. ”Marilyn, there is something I need to tell you” she looked up and I noticed a middle- aged man sitting right across from us. My mother looked at me and I saw her red eyes

“Marilyn, your father was a lovely man and I still love him” she stopped and wiped a falling tear from her face.

“He’s dead!” another sob broke through her “they murdered him, in his home in Italy”.

Dead ? How should I feel?  Sad? Angry? Shocked?

“Please say something” my mother pleaded.

“Err………sorry?” confused she looked at me.

“Sorry? Is that all you can say?” shit she looked angry as hell.

Anger boiled inside me. How dare she? “What do you want me to say? He was an excuse for a father! He left his family for another woman”.
