Chapter 4
I looked at the tall stranger in front of me. My words were gone and my face were flaming red. It felt like ages I’ve hugged a man. My mom used to set me up on dates with anyone she could find. I would count every minute off till the date ends. I fiddled with my fingers and looked down. What am I suppose to do?
“Err……….hi I’m Marilyn” I stuck out my hand. He ignored it and gave me another bear hug.
“Wow, I can’t believe you’re here already! I have so much to show you, to tell you and you must meet little Carlo he just couldn’t stop asking about you”
I freezed and I felt the blood rushing down my face. Carlo? My brother, how am I suppose to provide for him. I didn’t even babysit when I was younger and I barely know anything about kids.
“Listen, Dante right? I don’t think I can do this and………… who are you anyway?”
A serious expression creeped across his face “ don’t you dare abandon that boy he has been through hell and back” his eyes flashed yellow. I stumbled a step back and he saw the fear in my eyes.
He swiped his hand over his face and took my hand “listen, al I am saying is that he needs a little love and comfort” I nodded and leaded me to the car. While we walked I couldn’t stop thinking about his eyes. Was it just my imagination? We stopped in front of a silver Jaguar. I stood there gaping at it in wonder. He gave a chuckle and opened the passenger side door for me.
“I was your father’s bet…… assistant” he turned the key and the car roared and glided through the other cars.
He looked at me through his sunglasses and said “why so anxious ?”
I almost laughed at that stupid question “I don’t know maybe it’s because I was sent to Italy to look after my little brother who I just found out existed a day ago!” My voice was heavy with emotion and my breath came out in puffs.
He took my hand and leaned in while whispering “ don’t worry, you won’t be alone we will all be there to help you”.
I relaxed a little bit and gave a soft chuckle “ yeah, I guess so” I closed my eyes and took a deep breath and suddenly my mind registered what he said.
“Wait what did you mean by “we” Dante?”
There was a big smile on his face. He changed the gears and looked at the road in front of him “ they have waited so long to meet you”.
