The Beginning

My hair hung loose around my face, much to my frustration, but there was not a single thing I could do about it at the moment. My feet ached as I walked on the paved street. All the magic was gone and all I had left was a torn dress and  half of my now broken mask. It had rained a couple of hours ago and the pedicure that I had gotten previously today was useless now. Mud covered me up to my bare knees. The night was chilly and the only piece of clothing that protected me from the chilly air was my scarlet leather jacket.

I gazed down at the dark blue dress. It had cost me so much to make this and now it was ruined. Derived from it's original beauty by mud and tears. I could feel my eyes water. I would not weep over this!

"Wait!" I heard a shout behind me, causing every cell in my body tense up. Looking behind me, I saw his lean figure running my way. I did the only thing a girl in such a situation could do. I ran. I ran up the slope, his long feet catching up to me steadily. My heart pounded and I looked at the forest parallel to me. Throwing a last glance behind me, I threw myself in the shadows of the tree. Not like my dress would mind.

Quickly, I tried controlling my breath as I heard his footsteps come down the slope and stop in confusion.

"What? She was just here," he whispered into the night. I peeked from the tree and could see his head looking around, before a defeated sigh escaped his lips. He looked down at something in his hands, craning my neck I noticed that is was the other half of my mask.

"I'll find you."

He looked once more around, before turning around and leaving back to his home. He looked enticing in the moonlight with his broad shoulder. Turning back around, I leaned my head against the old tree, closing my eyes. This time the tears did escape. Foolish tears. Those bitches would pay one day. There was so much a human being could take. Karma would come for them and punish them for every evil thing they did to her. I would be Karma. I opened my eyes, looking into the distance of the wilderness with determination.

I stepped out of the tree's shadow and continued walking. I couldn't take this anymore. I needed to leave this place! I wasn't meant to be here. I didn't fit in this town. It was that simple. I continued another two miles down the road until I finally reached home. Well, it was more of a home to me than my actual home.

Opening the door, I could hear the heavy snoring of grandmother down the hall. Closing the door quietly I went into the guest room, also known as my room. Tossing the broken mask somewhere in my closet, I stripped from my dress and hit the shower, hoping the water spraying down on me would erase the bad memories of tonight. I trudged out of the shower in my pajamas, my favorite color, and tossed myself into bed. Sleeping taking over in a matter of seconds.
