(Leri)
I awoke to a pounding at the door.
"OPEN UP! This is the HSD! If you do not comply, we will use force!"
I quickly dashed up.
"Coming!" I yelled.
I opened the door to two large, armed men.
"Ma'am, the human you visited yesterday escaped his cell. You wouldn't happen to have something to do with this right?" They eyed me suspiciously.
"N-no, w-whatever would give you that idea?"
They were clearly unconvinced.
"Ma'am, may we have a look inside of your home?" They asked.
"Well I don't see why you would want to-"
"For gods sake Leri, It's not like I have you at knife point! Let them in while they aren't mad!" Interrupted Jace, causing me to look at him in shock. He was still tinkering with the parts.
"Who was that?" The guard said before opening the door to see Jace sitting down tinkering with bits and pieces of the newest edition to my house.
"You are both under arrest." Said the guard angrily. I was horrified.
"For what?" Asked Jace before turning around and looking at him.
"Your human." He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the universe.
"Not me, her! I broke out of my cell, hid in here, and forced her swear that she would not give me away. And your arresting her?!" He said this with what looked like legitimate confusion.
"Then why are you building something for her?" The guard asked, pointing the gun at him. I don't know what came over me, but that gun pointed at him pissed me off. I charged at the guard, and right before I made contact, something tackled me to the floor.
"LERI! Why the hell did you try to attack him?!" Jace said from on top of me.
"He was going to shoot you!" I yelled back.
"Just because he raised the gun doesn't mean he was going to shoot."
I felt Jace stand up, and he gave me his hand as I stood up.
"As to why I was working, their are three main reasons: the first, was I felt guilty for scaring this poor girl senseless. Second, I had nothing better to do. Third, I have no clue where anything is down here. I would just get lost if I did." Jace had made a good point.
"Very well, the girl will not be punished. For now. Take him back to his cell." As the guard used the barrel of the gun to move Jace down the tunnel, I felt oddly lonely.
After a while they came back for me.
"Why did you withhold the information that the prisoner was in your house? Hell, he was more honest than you!" He paused as if in thought.
"What is he up to?" The guard asked. I thought about wether or not telling the truth would be breaking my promise. I decided to tell them half of it.
"He thinks the only reason he's alive is that he has information on the biomass. He isn't willing to share until he has a 100% guarantee of survival. He doesn't seem to have any malicious intent, in fact, he is really helpful." I hoped my words had made Jace's case. The guards nodded and walked in the direction of the city, most likely to file a report on the incident. I sighed, hoping my boss wouldn't hold this against me. Uh oh, I have work. I quickly ran up the tunnels to the market. I arrived at the scrap shop with no time to spare, and the manager was sitting in his chair chewing a piece of fruit. He was an old decrepit man, but he had a bit of a bite to him.I had gotten used to it, he wasn't mean, just grumpy about the pain in his joints. He would often show compassion and caring when he was not complaining.
"You look quite flustered this morning."' He said still reading a book.
