Chapter 5: The Break In
_____________________________________________________________
"Your friend is quite . . . friendly." Ryan remarks as we enter the front door. My arms are filled with grocery bags. Since I had no idea what Ryan had in his cabinet I was anything but generous when it came to obtaining food. And though I promised Ryan that I would pay for the food, he could have at least made an effort to help me with the bags. I felt as if my arms were about to fall off. Meanwhile, Ryan is strolling leisurely by my side as if he's the happiest man on earth.
"She's not my friend." I remark, my breath heavy from the load I was bearing. "She's my student, and not one of my favorites either. I mean, did you see the way she was looking at you? That's completely inappropriate!"
"I don't know, I thought she was cute." he laughs. I just roll my eyes.
"New rule, you are not allowed to refer to any of my students as cute." I spit as I proceed to march past him and in no direction in particular. "Now, where's the damn kitchen. This stuff is heavy."
By the time I finished packing the groceries it was still too early in the day to start cooking dinner and I still had some time to kill. Only, I had no idea where to go or what to do. I knew Ryan had already picked up my car because I'd seen it outside but I have no idea how I'm supposed to get to it. It was a maze enough getting here but now I have to go back. And to make matters worse, I have no idea where Ryan is.
I debate on whether it was best for me to stay in place and wait for him to pop up. You know, follow the old saying in which you stay put if you're lost. But I decided against it. For one, I was no longer a child. And second, I was in a house! How lost could I get?
I venture out of the kitchen and decide to walk straight up ahead. I remember Ryan leading me onto a straight path on our way to the kitchen. As I walked I could hear my footsteps echo against the wooden floors. The sound bounced off the burgundy brown walls and filled my ears in its quietness.
It made me wonder if Ryan ever got lonely living here by himself. I mean, sure, it was a nice house. But it was huge, way too big for only one person. Did he ever get scared? A place this huge you might not even notice if someone else could be in the house.
That sudden thought made me shiver. The idea of someone else being in this house without my knowing is just creepy. I'm so used to small areas. I've never had more than a 6 foot distance from someone else at the most. I've just been used to the cluttered life. I used to complain about that life, but I guess there was just something appeasing about knowing that there was someone nearby and knowing if you're completely alone.
After another three minutes of roaming around the building I deem that I was nowhere closer to being near the front door. But on the bright side, the faint sound of static voices filled my ears as it came from a room near by.
So Ryan had ditched me to watch television. Typical.
As I draw closer to the noise, I notice the dull light that peers through a cracked door. My steps become more confident as I, for the first time, feel like I know where I'm going inside this house. When I open the door it's pitch black, the only form of movement coming from the television that sat on the wall across from me.

Humor"Who the hell are you?" "You mean you don't remember?" he asks as he simultaneously takes a step forward. He's way too close now. As much as it appeased me to have a HOTTIE only 2 inches away, I was feeling way too claustrophobic right now. So I tak...
