Steve was surprised as he was terrified, as the ground grumbled under him he found himself falling down a deep cavern right under the city, Steve is holding onto Popper for dear life hoping that Popper survives the fall instead of him, then suddenly he hits something he gasps for air as he tries to swim up, then when he can finally breathe again he notices that he fell down a ravine full of water, but he sees light around a bend, he gets out of the water with Popper in hand and walks slowly to it, without even thinking.
after a few minutes of walking Steve finds the light but not what he expected, it was a big pool of lava seeping through the wall, Popper squirms in Steve's grasp as he tries to escape and run off but Steve holds him tight trying to calm him down, as Steve walks back to where they fell he looks around for a way out "I don't think we can climb this it's to steep, I'm gonna put you down but I need u to help me not run off", Popper nodded as he looked around for something useful.
~2 Hours later~
After looking around for a while Steve spots something, then a looks at Popper "Popper come here I think I found are way out" Popper runs to where Steve is and looks up "it's a ladder come on, lets climb up hopefully this leads to the surface" Steve picks up Popper and puts him on his back and starts climbing "wow this is a long way up, if we find Herobrine then hopefully we can stop him from, well, whatever he's doing wrong" Popper looks at Steve a little annoyed because he doesn't think Steve has a proper plan to work with.
Finally they get to the top with Steve huffing and puffing, Steve puts Popper down, with Popper looking up at him "damn you are heavy, what have u been eating Popper?" as Steve looks down at him Popper tilts his head a little, "of course you don't know" Steve laughs a bit then starts walking in the direction he thinks Herobrine went. When Steve reaches a clearing he sees some smoke in the distance "what is that?" Steve wonders, then he realizes where the smoke is then he runs towards it as fast as he could.
