Our Last Memories

What Happened

17 year old Natsu:

It was my second to last day in the capital of Fiore. I was on my way to visit my best friend. Lucy, Lucy Heartfilia. We were born together in the same hospital and around the same time. We grew up together, both of our parents owned big companies. I wouldn't have been surprised if we got married one day. Well that was before my parents decided we had to leave our home and go to Magnolia. I was going to miss Lucy.

Flashback:

"Mommy are we almost there?" I whined. 

"Almost dear you must wait." She said rubbing my cheek.

"But i caaaaaannnnn'tttt" I said laying my head on her lap.

"Your so impacient child," right when she said that we had parked in front of the Hearfilia residence. I jumped out of the car not caring if it was still moving. 

"That child is going to get seriously hurt one day," Said mommy. 

"Natsuuuuu! NATSU!!" Lucy ran to me and crashed into my arms. I gave her a peck on the forehead.

"LUCY!" I hugged her like it was the end of the world. Mommy goes inside while me and Lucy play outside. 

"Nastu please don't go! You can stay with me we have many rooms in our house." She said pointing to the mansion behind her.

"I'm sorry Lucy but thats not how things work." I wiped the tears off her face. 

"But Natsuuuu," She whined again.

"Its ok Lucy-chan, I'll find you one day, then we will be together forever. I promise." She finally smiles.

"Yeah," She runs to the swings and I follow. "Natsu can you push me?" 

"Of course" I gave her a grin before helping her up and pushing her.

One hour later

"Natsu, Lucy come get a drink of lemonade." Layla said.  

"Ok," we both yelled back. I threw the ball at Lucy for her to catch but it hit her head instead and rolled onto the street. A very busy street in fact.

"Lemme get it real fast," Lucy said already running towards it.

"No mom and dad said not to go on the street, we'll just wait," I told her trying to grab her. But she kept dogging me.

"No i wanna go get it!!" She screeched.

"Ugh fine but watch out for cars," I walked back to the door but never made it past that.

"AAAAAHHHHH" I look out the door to see Lucy screaming. But that wasn't the worst part of it. It was the impact. The car hit her spilling blood everywhere. The car hadn't even stopped to take the blame. 

"LUCY!!!!!" I heard Mrs. Hearfilia call out to Lucy, I snap back to what was happening and run to her.

"NO NATSU!" My mom held me back. 

"Let go!" I stomp on her foot and ran to Lucy. She was just barely breathing. I only felt a few breathes here and there. But that wasn't what frightened me that day, it was what she had told me. 

"Don't worry Lucy, i'll remember," I said.

I heard the ambulance coming but I didn't move. "Natsu come on, we have to go."  It wasn't until then that I realize that Lucy want in my arms anymore. I look at mommy with tears in my eyes. 

"Will she be ok mommy?" My mom wipes my tears but fails to do so with her's. 

"Yes, come one lets go see her," She said, picking me up even though I was old enough to walk.

My father changed flights so we would leave the day after the accident. That way me and Lucy would have the whole day to ourselves.

"Hey Lucy I bought you something. Look open the package," I said once I entered her hospital room. She looked at me with bright eyes and worry.

"MOMMMY!" She screamed. Layla walked over to her daughter from where she was standing in the room, my mom stayed close by.

"It's ok Lucy, i'm here your going to be fine," I told her reaching out for her hand, she pushed me away and clung on to Layla pulling her closer. "What's wrong Luce?"

"Whats wrong Honey," Lucy waved her mom to come closer, and whispered in her ear. Whatever Lucy said shocked her mom enough to call the doctor in.

"Whats wrong, Lucy?" She just hid under her blanket. I leave the package in her room and walk out lingering near the door. I heard the doctor say something that really scared me.

"I'm sorry I forgot to tell you, she lost her Memory. At least it wasn't a lot of things that she forgot. She remembers her name and her family, she als-"

"She doesn't even remember who her best friend is! She just told me that there was a stranger in her room!" Layla screamed.

"Layla, I think its best if you tell Lucy about the accident but leave us out of it. Start her life all over again. I don't want her to meet Natsu now, but never meet him again later. Plus we don't know how long we will be gone."

"*sigh* Yes I think that is fine," They end with a hug, then She comes to me, tears in her eyes.

"Now Natsu, you be a good boy! I don't know when the last time we will see each other is, but I will miss you tons, and so will Lucy." She hugged me once more and kissed my cheek. Before my mom dragged my out of the room, not letting me say goodbye.

-17 year old Natsu-

I gasp as I sit up from my bed. I had the dream again, the dream that I wish would stop coming. The dream.... the one I always get. It has been 9 years and i still get the dream. The one about her.

I go to the bathroom and get ready for school. Its the second day of Junior year, and nothing interesting has happened yet in my 3 years of high school. So i'm feeling pretty confident. Besides what could possibly go wrong?
