DISCLAIMER: I do not own certain characters such as Valentine and Jonathan Morgenstern, originally from The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare but not all are from the series. This is only a mere work of fiction by my imagination following the original plot.

It was a cloudy day at Idris. Choruses of birds sang their piece as every shadowhunter rose from bed but not everyone wakes up before the birds do, there a few who are trained and are training to wake up earlier. Yawning, a 6 year old boy rubbed the sleep from his eyes, he is one of those who are training to wake up early but failed to do so. Little Jonathan winces as the early rays of sun washed his face, realizing he had failed such a simple task.

There was a light tapping on one of the windows as if a bird was pecking on the glass, he went out of his room to proceed to the living room. The light tapping was Hugin, the raven is one of his father's pet, it was still pecking on the glass as if trying to wake Jonathan up, but clearly the boy knows that the bird isn't. It was Hugin's way of saying he is impatient, it was probably there since dawn carrying the daily note from his father, he was supposed to open that window before sun rise but he overslept. Jonathan opened the window and Hugin flew inside and perched itself on the perch at the far end of the room. He approached the raven and is caught off guard by the note which says, "Good morning my Jonathan, expect me to come home by noon."

Jonathan was often alone inside the small remote cottage he lives in, where his father goes? He never asked, afraid to be whipped bloody which will surely happen this afternoon for he failed to rise early. Hugin flew out and went back to his father as an indication that he is awake by now, and also indicates that his father will know of his disobedience. Jonathan dragged himself to the kitchen and fetched an apple, knowing that if he eat proper breakfast he will surely throw up because clearly whenever his father was home he was to train and whenever his father leaves, he is expected to master what was taught to him by the time his father was back.

Clutching the apple in his slender hands, he took a bite and went out to the front porch. The morning breeze was cool on his skin as he sat on the wooden railings, there was a black wooden table and a wooden lounge chair—not the reclining type—there but that's where his father usually sit. On the table was a copy of the Codex with a Demon language book on top of it. He reached for the book with his free hand. It was a book covered in plain black leather and has the title "The Language of Demons" on the spine and at the front, judging by it's thickness it's about as thick as the codex in half. The whole book was written in Latin despite the English title, the first page read, "Introductio ad Lingua Daemon", in a fancy swirling font.

His father set a schedule for him to read and study various languages, on Mondays he was to read Greek books, on Tuesdays were Romanian, Wednesdays were for French, and today it was Latin. By the gentle morning breeze and the dancing trees, Jonathan continues to read as he ate his apple under the cloudy sky.

"Sia!" A voice called only to be responded by a girly giggle.

"Sia!" The voice neared and the little girl sprinted into the maze hedge, giggling. Gwendalyn Rosenkreuz peered at the back door and sighed as she didn't get any sight of her daughter Sia, scanning the garden to make sure she isn't hiding behind one of the shrubs like the last time.

"Sia Magdalein come out now!" She shouted, and again was only responded by a giggle. Her daughter was a wanderer, often sneaking out and venturing the vicinity around the house, going to Alicante alone or even adventuring inside the Brocelind forest to go to her "secret place" near Lake Lyn. Judging by the giggle, Gwendalyn sighed once again as she knew where her daughter was and went into the maze hedge, taking various rights and lefts to go to the center of the maze where there's a gazebo and a swing. She took one last step and she was inside the center of the maze, there she was greeted by her daughter with a warm hug. "Good morning Mom!" Sia said, smiling innocently as if she didn't led her mother into a wild goose chase inside the house. She returned the smile and said, "Come on now, let's eat breakfast." as she led her daughter inside the house.
