"S-A-L-A-D" she spelt out with her hands in sign language. Ross looked at her puzzled. "Jess I'm not to great at sign language yet, let me get Adam" he said, she read his lips word by word. She nodded and the tall boy walked off, she couldn't hear what he said but she read his lips as he talked. 'I need help understanding Jess, haven't perfected sign language"

She smiled as Adam got up off the couch and walked over to her. "What we're you asking?" She read from his lips, even though he did the signs she didn't need them. Adam was her closet friend and learn to understand him. She still hears him in her head saying these things before she got struck. "S-A-L-A-D" She spelled and raised her eyebrows, he chuckled at the remark. "Sure, want help?" He asked, she nodded in agreement.

A little while later Jess opened the fridge and realized they had no salad dressing. She stood up and turned to Adam 'no salad dressing' she signed to him. "Ross, we don't have any salad dressing or drinks now that I think of it" Adam said. Ross and Barney were sitting in the living room watching tv, they had turned on the sub tilted for Jess but she was to busy cooking. "Barney and I will run to the store and few miles away, we should be back in a hour" she said and signed what he could for Jess. "Okay" Adam said and just like that him and Jess were left alone.

They sun was setting and Jess looked at it out the glass doors. He lightly tapped her. 'Sunset?' He signed, she nodded and smiled. 'It's beautiful' she replied, darkness soon faded over the trees and they went back to cooking. Whilst Adam had gone to get a towel Jess had knocked a wine bottle opener on the floor without realizing, not hearing it, it lay on the floor.

'Shouldn't the guys be back by now?' Jess signed, she was worried. "Probably just driving carefully in the dark" he said aloud, she read his lips and nodded. 'Your right' she quickly replied and went back to chopping onions. There was a loud banging on the door, Jess didn't hear it but Adam sure did, it made him drop his knife. She gave him a puzzled look. "I think someone's knocking, I'll get it" he said, he walked over to the door and opened it slowly. No one.

He turned around to see Jess just standing still, he didn't have his glasses on so he couldn't really see what was causing this. As he inched closer he saw how pale her whole body went, and her knife on the floor. When he was right beside her she saw what she was terrified by. A man standing behind thr glass sliding doors, white mask and black hat. He growled, it made Adam back up but Jess didn't hear it she couldn't.

And for the first time, along with Jess, Adam was mute too.
